For this installment of Essentials HYPEBEAST met up with Jamie Laycock, VP of Marketing and Creative at The Frye Company. Established in 1863, The Frye Company originally served as a simple shoe store in Massachusetts catering to the local factory workers and their need for functional footwear. Over the course of future years and with the dedication of the future generations of the Frye family, the company continued to expand its business across the country. The Frye Company now serves as one of the longest serving purveyors of leather goods worn by customers from the country fields to the city streets. Before arriving at his current position, New York-raised Jamie Laycock studied architecture at Penn State University before working with companies such as J.Crew, Armani, Bally and Gap. Success in these positions allowed Laycock to eventually work directly with John Varvatos before he arrived at The Frye Company. Laycock now lives in Manhattan and, as VP of Marketing and Creative, works towards the company’s mission to make the best-looking, hardest-working, longest-lasting shoes and leather goods.

Amongst Laycock’s selection of Essentials we find a classic army jacket which belonged to his father along with two pairs of shoes, the James Double Monk and Harvey Tote, both crafted by The Frye Company. For the technological everyday needs, Laycock includes a third generation iPad in his collection as well as a Canon G9 and Marshall in-ear headphones, and in terms of items providing an insight into the future we find the blueprints for the Boston store.
