Last night, the 17th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards aired on VH1 live from the Palladium in Hollywood. The show provided a nice warmup for the 84th Academy Awards, which will take place on February 26. One of the most special honors given at the CCMA’s was to legendary director Martin Scorcese, who received the Music + Film Award for his work on Hugo, the family-friendly book-to-movie adaptation of Brian Selznick’s award-winning novel, The Invention of Hugo Cabret. To pay further tribute to Scorcese, Olivia Harrison, widow to The Beatles’ George Harrison, introduced a very special musical guest. Fully-suited with his signature harmonica and all, Bob Dylan took the stage and performed one of his lesser-known songs in honor of the person who directed quite possibly the most fascinating documentary on him, No Direction Home. Although the 70-year-old Dylan’s voice may be a little harsh even for the biggest of his fans, it’s always a pleasure to see such an influential, culture-impacting figure still pick up the microphone in front of such a large audience. Press play above to watch Dylan perform “Blind Willie McTell,” which was originally recorded in 1983, but went unreleased until 1991’s The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961-1991.
