For Fall/Winter 2012, high fashion house Prada has created another head-turning and opinion-dividing hybrid shoe. Following in the footsteps of its wingtip sneakers and espadrilles — footwear that spawned hosts of fans, imitators and detractors alike — this season’s “Levitate” wingtips are a mash-up of a high-end wingtip and performance sneaker. The sole appears to be a take on a transparent, full-length Nike Max Air unit, while the uppers are comprised of burnished leather with brogue detailing. The fall/winter “Levitate” range also includes a loafer, Chelsea boot and kiltie brogue, for those looking at other means of rising above the traditional shoe game. Regardless of one’s opinions regarding the shoe’s aesthetics, what is certain is that they are now available for purchase at Nordstrom.
