Having taken over as creative director for Dior Homme several years ago (following the lamented departure of Hedi Slimane), Belgian designer Kris Van Assche has proved that he, too, is capable of creating a new, signature look for the label. Giving his collection for Spring/Summer 2012 the title “LessAndMore,” Van Assche relied heavily on asymmetrical cuts and a minimalist design to carry the show. While his color palate consisted mainly of black and white, it was eventually broken up by a string of beige and brown looks as well as couple of pieces in several shades of blue. Soft, luxurious fabrics only served to compliment the crisp and clean staples like high-waisted trousers, double-breasted blazers and button-down shirts. Speaking of luxe, Van Assche made excellent use of leather, using it as a trim on several jackets and coats and even as the basis for a number of butter soft short-sleeve shirts. The understated accessories, though, proved to be the coup de grâce as models walked down the runway in broad-brimmed hats, black leather wristlets and thick-soled wingtip ankle boots.
