Dan Colen "Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are!" Exhibition @ The Carlson Gallery

Dan Colen has remained slightly under the radar in the mainstream art world, well-known in circles of Saatchis and Gagosians but less so in popular culture. Always pushing boundaries with works such as paintings designed to resemble bird droppings or a slew of chewing gum stuck to a canvas, Colen is part of a group of closely-knit New York-based artists that had previously included Dash Snow until his untimely heroin overdose in 2009. As a testament to his late friend, Colen has put together an exhibition entitled “Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are!” at the Carlson Gallery in London, citing themes including “Religion,” “Bullshit Magic” and “Idols and Assholes” among others as his inspiration for the Snow-centered show. Running now through the end of July, Colen’s unique “Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are!” is worth checking out for any fan of the contemporary New York art scene.
