Japanese art icon Takashi Murakami, founder of the Superflat movement, has an exhibition of new and original pieces slated for the Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris. “Homage to Yves Klein” plays off the French artist Klein, a pioneer of Nouveau Réalisme and a prominent inspiration to the minimalism and Pop art. Referencing Klein’s “Proposition Monochrome: Blue Epoch” show and the successive derivation of ‘International Klein Blue,’ Murakami has carefully color-coordinated a series of monochromatic works – including his notable skull and flower motifs while introducing studies of rich textures – with plenty of the requisite blue. “Homage to Yves Klein” runs from October 20 to January 7, 2012.
