Junya Watanabe’s collections for COMME des GARCONS under his eponymous line have varied in inspiration by huge extents over the years; however, they always maintain the designer’s signature quirky takes on heritage garments as well as his painstaking, and patently Japanese, attention to detail. For Spring 2012, Junya orchestrated an outdoor fashion show clearly inspired by a weekend in the British countryside – with colorful overalls, cropped trousers ideal for gardening, waxed hunting jackets in an array of hues, patchwork denim, plaid sport jackets, and duck boots all making their way into the collection. Although it’s probable that none of these pieces will ever actually see the light of day on a groundskeeper, their leisurely yet agrarian aesthetic will be sure to please some of the more eccentric high-fashion shoppers this fall.
