Upon its initial release in 1989, the ZX 5000 was sold as a simpler model that focused on superior cushioning for middle to long distance runners. This version comes in a black, white, red and grey colorway that works well across the varying elements of the shoe. The upper is constructed from a suede and mesh combination that is predominantly black, while the red detailing—on the stripe on the heel tab, reflective toe panel, lace jewel and foxing on the otherwise grey 3-Stripes—provide a bit of pop. The white midsole segues neatly into the all-white heel stability counter at the rear of the shoe to round out this nicely balanced color combination that is wearable across a range of scenarios.
