Kicks Presented by DC Shoes and Subtext

Subtext was the location for the recent opening of the KICKS art show thrown in conjunction with DC Shoes. The exhibition involved 19 artists each creating their own interpretation on the DC Gatsby sneaker. The shoes were part of a larger effort to raise funds for the Southern California Wild Fire Relief Fund. The list of influential artists included Ronald Kurniawan, Aaron Martin (Angry Woebots), Ekundayo, Miles Donovan, Julie West, KMNDZ, Sita Lawton, Aaron Thomas, DIRE, Josh Kenyon, Colby, Nichols, Jasper Wong, Marco Zamora, James Jirat Patradoon, Josh Taylor, Sandra Equihua, Cole Gerst (Option-G), & David Foldvari. Nike is set to release a “Be True City Collection” to commemorate the Nike Dunk. Seven cities will see a paltry 86 pairs of their city specific colorway released. Enlisting the help from an all-star cast of artists, veterans such as skater Andy Howell, Steve Caballero (Vans Cab), Caia Koopman, Mr. Jago, Andrew Pommier, Will Barras and Squindo are all in participation for the SAS collection. Between the artists, countless skate decks, snowboards, surf boards and album covers have come under their influence. Keeping in line with the theme of sins, each of the artist created designs based on pride, envy, lust, anger, greed, sloth and gluttony. The skis will debut at the SIA Tradeshow which starts up today and runs until February 1st with a special running going up on Evogear.
