Since the inception of the brand Obey by artist Shepard Fairey, he has built an incredible art-based empire with his ongoing propaganda movement. However, underneath all of his artwork is a glimmer story told by artist Mark Vallen. In a recent critique of Shepard Fairey, he blasts the Obey movement as nothing more then a plagiaristic endeavor which severely undermines the original intents and messages his art is derived from. Vallen offers numerous side by side examples of how many of Obey’s designs are lifted from previous political campaigns without mention of origin and source. The extensive article can be seen here at Art For A Change.

In the merging of fashion and athletics, Italian denim brand Diesel has launched a new campaign of denim created especially for adidas. This collaboration follows a similar storyline to the successful sport/denim partnership of Puma and Evisu. Two models are available, the adi-matic (in Super Wash and Raw) and the adi-rohary (in Dirty and Raw). The overall design embodies subtle imagery on behalf of both brands and incorporates adidas’ familiar 3-Stripes design as well as the trademark D logo from Diesel. Unfortunately, it appears as though badunkadunks need not apply.

For Jason Dill’s Fucking Awesome label, the brand offers an edgy authentic approach reflective of Jason’s unique personality and philosophy. The long-time Etnies rider came together with the skate brand’s sub-label Etnies Plus to create a special Fucking Awesome x Etnies Plus design. The black upper with gum sole is an infallible equation in our opinion, with the not so subtle branding starting at the middle of the upper and wrapping around the heel in classic FA fashion. Stay tuned for more details regarding the release.

For the Nike Be True campaign which is to celebrate one of the all time beloved sneaker, the Dunk, artist Eisaku Kito has created a figure called DIVA which is currently displayed at Colette. Here’s Eisaku Kito’s inspiration behind the figure
“I got the idea of an angel from the white shoes and the color white. It’s not the kind of angel people imagine. It’s a mysterious being created by people – similar to a UFO. Sound is the hidden concept, or maybe, the result of my personal desire to want to hear sound. But, then again, Divas and angels are related to sound and music. And if you think about it, NIKE is the name of a goddess, so maybe it all ties together.”
