Shayne Oliver’s unorthodox aesthetics has carved a niche of its own in the ever-changing scape of fashion. Guiding the industry’s visual shift from streetwear to higher, avant-garde extremities, Oliver’s label Hood By Air’s has inspired a whole genre of designers besotted with the brand’s experimental use of textiles, print and execution. 2014’s been a whirlwind year for Oliver whose line Hood By Air Classics continued to garner cult following for its youthful threads that balanced stark colors with progressive graphics. Building a reputation for his androgynous approach to design, the brand’s fully-fledged cut & sew line also marveled runways during fashion weeks. On the collaborative front, HBA teamed up with Selfridges on a limited-edition skate deck and Forfex on a unique mash-up boot rendition. Such accolades resulted in Oliver bagging home the CFDA’s Swarovski Award for Menswear and LVHM’s Prize for Young Fashion Designers Award, seeing him through to 2015 with a few more notches under his belt.
