Following an initial preview through a behind-the-scenes video, Woolrich Woolen Mills this time offers an extensive look into the brand’s latest collection for 2012 fall/winter under the guidance of American designer Mark McNairy. Taking design inspirations from the civil war alongside Sergio Leone’s The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, McNairy presented a variety of utilitarian garments that see him working on reoccurring structures such as textures and patterns. Starting with duffel coats, quilted hybrid shirt, fur-lined parkas and corduroy jackets, the new lineup also welcomes some understated pieces including slim anoraks and khaki trousers.

Surely Mark McNairy has transferred some of his shoemaking ability to Woolrich Woolen Mills as shown by a new release for this season. Under his first season as the creative lead, the Para Boots follows some of the same underlying themes as McNairy’s own eponymous label. A nice traditionally made in England boot features tumbled leather in brown with a melton wool contrast. Available now at the Nitty Gritty Store.

Over the years, Woolrich Woolen Mills has become known for its American-made heritage and manufacturing traditions. Now, under the helm of creative director Mark McNairy, the label is building upon that reputation while also forging a new path for itself in the contemporary market. For its Spring/Summer 2012 collection, Woolrich Woolen Mills presented a number of casual, safari-inspired pieces that ranged from khaki suits and slim anoraks to jackets and coats that made good use of functional fabrics. While neutral tones reigned supreme and placed a clear focus on the main garments, a few prints were also thrown in for good measure, adding a psychedelic flair to the mix.

Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come from Woolrich Woolen Mills for Fall/Winter 2011. Designed by Mark McNairy, this brogue boot (which was shown during a recent press day held at the brand’s showroom) features a rich, high-quality chocolate brown leather on the quarter with a wingtip design on the toe and a contrast grey detailing over the vamp. A strong collective turned their focus to Woolrich Woolen Mills’ Fall/Winter 2011 collection these past few days. Ushering in a new creative lead is never an easy task as Mark McNairy took over the reins from Engineered Garments’ Daiki Suzuki. McNairy’s first order of business was to reintroduce archival WWM works that were less about the avid outdoorsman but rather a preppy approach.

Styled by Glenn Kitson, both this teaser and the complete clip was edited by Keith Mottram and was photographed and directed by Antony Crook. The accompanying music is from pioneering Scottish post-rock band Mogwai and perfectly complements the long ride. Following an original preview back in June, we now take a closer look into upcoming product from Woolrich Woolen Mills for the 2011 Spring/Summer season. Referencing pioneering labels from the 1950s to the 1970s, the collection takes on a nice assortment of garments inspired by those in the aforementioned eras. Notable as well is the fact that this collection will be the last designed by Daiki Suzuki, as Fall/Winter 2011 will see a new change in direction under the guidance of popular American designer Mark McNairy. With photography by Antony Crook and styling from Glenn Kitson, the subject model in the piece is James Bowthorpe – the man who last year broke the record for circumnavigating the globe.
