Rick Griffin and his signature aesthetic is among the latest artists of a previous generation to take the plunge into Vans artist series. The multi-shoe collection incorporates three separate familiar favorites. The SK8-HI, Mid Skool and Old Skool are all relatively the same in execution with a black/white design which features the artist’s artwork over various aspects of the sneaker including the upper, lining and outsole. While we previewed some of the fall releases for the Rick Griffin x Vans Vault collection, a present-day release with a classic Vans Authentic model also bears the name of the iconic underground comic/psychedelic illustrator. The shoe’s execution is ultimately very minimalistic as the majority of the design on the all white Authentic is seen within the lining as well as on a special box. A signature of the late Griffin marks the heels of both shoes. Available now at FLAUGE.

Paying tribute to legendary artist/poster designer Rick Griffin, Vans Vault will launch a set of sneakers featuring Griffin’s trademark psychedelic style. Made famous for his countless rock posters in the 60′s, not to mention the Rolling Stone Magazine logo, Rick Griffin gained plenty of notoriety for his unique sense of design within the burgeoning hippie movement. Although his life was cut short in 1991, the legend still lives on with a tribute collection for Vault’s 2009 Fall lineup. The pack will feature two t-shirt designs alongside three different sneaker models.
