A few days out from the conclusion of Paris Fashion Week’s Fall/Winter 2012 menswear showings, we present a selection of our top 10 looks. After spending some time deliberating, chosen were looks came from Acne, Dries Van Noten, Givenchy, Henrik Vibskov, Issey Miyake, Junya Watanabe COMME des GARCONS MAN, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton and MIHARAYASUHIRO. A largely unified theme among our choices was the focus on proportions as everyday wearability being an important trait. While we concede you won’t find some next level examples of groundbreaking progression, the chosen outfits exude a degree of style with great longevity. Under the helm of creative director Sacha Walkchoff, French fashion house Christian Lacroix recently unveiled its menswear collection for Fall/Winter 2012. A former right hand of Monsieur Christian Lacroix, Walkchoff offers a handsome selection of tailored garments and numerous classic staples that feature clean construction and modern fits. Highlighted by kaleidoscopic prints and numerous intricate embellishments, this new arrangement reflects the Maison’s initiative to renovate the brand with a more contemporary scheme, while staying true to its heritage.

Amalgamating various traditional menswear pieces with his predilection to conceptual and offbeat fashion, the latest collection from Walter Van Beirendonck welcomes a series of re-imagined garments that feature appealing pastel colors and restrained patterns. Cohesiveness plays an important role throughout the collection as hand-painted graphics applied on suits and trousers form unique shapes, while bold colors on numerous staples make for a pleasing color block design. Capping off the collection, the designer’s inventive approach to select outerwear garments as utilitarian coats is actualized with unique construction and material composition.

As featured here a few days ago, the 2012 fall/winter collection from COMME des GARCONS HOMME PLUS received high praise for its gender-free designs. Today, courtesy of PREMICES FILMS, we present the entire runway collection in video form for your viewing pleasure. As evident through the video, the “Neither Man Nor Woman” collection presents an idiosyncratic blend of goth and sexiness with bird’s nest hairdos, floral patterned windowpane suiting, modified kilts and heavy wool jackets all in dark hues.

Presenting yet another strong lineup of countryside-inspired clothing for Fall/Winter 2012 is Junya Watanabe for COMME des GARCONS MAN. The forthcoming collection is another testament to Watanabe’s ability to rework a variety of classic styles and workwear pieces with his chic and contemporary commonsense. Seemingly building on the success of last season, Watanabe shows progression with a more matured aesthetic and tasteful color preference via a range of suit jackets, functional parkas, double-breasted coats, denim jackets and work pants. Attention to detail was paid with the inclusion of embroidered patches, chromatic tartans and contrast stitching.

Incorporating several winter-appropriate materials such as tweed, other classic materials such as denim and melton wool are the foundations for the progression of timeless classics such as overcoats, blazers and M-65 jackets.

Under the helm of newly appointed creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim – the cool duo behind Opening Ceremony – Kenzo recently unveiled its collection for Fall/Winter 2012. Inspired by late Apple founder Steve Jobs, Leon and Lim have continued to build on the brand’s underpinning with a sportier and streamlined edge. The smart and playful assortment features some utilitarian garments that are actualized with recurring patterns or bold, flamboyant colors. Exuding an air of timelessness and character, styling involves the coupling of classic and quirky styles including slim cut suits, double-breasted coats, tailored pants, reworked brogues and of course, Jobs’s favorite turtle necks.

Following up on our static view of the Henrik Vibskov 2012 fall/winter collection comes a more dynamic view of the showing. With the movement of a painted white centerpiece, an offbeat soundtrack set to further reinforce the brand’s interests. A short interview talks about Vibskov’s inspirations which are a testament to the final product.

Japanese designer MIHARAYASUHIRO recently unveiled his latest Fall/Winter 2012 collection during the recently concluded Paris Fashion Week. Prominent for his minimalist avant-garde designs, Yasuhiro’s latest collection offers a slightly more refined and mature aesthetic as seen on the pleasing mix of blazers, pea coats, padded parkas, bomber jackets and cropped trousers. In addition, some expected hybrid styles complete the lineup, including military-centric coats and camo-patterned suits made from fine kimono fabrics.

Keeping a strong grasp to her minimalist design principles, Ann Demeulemeester previews her latest collection for Fall/Winter 2012. The Belgian designer focuses on structured and flowy garments that have allowed her to modify numerous classic silhouettes. From the line comes a series of elongated outerwear variants and androgynous pieces, including extensive blazers and pullover dresses that are artistically detailed by fading graphics and offsetting hues. In addition, the collection also welcomes an eclectic range of muted high cut boots.
