Cycling is a family affair for Superted. Riding around London with his dad and brother, Ted entered his first charity ride at nine years old, doing thirty miles on a 20 inch wheel, five gear mountain bike. With the miles and contests came lots of broken bike parts. Ted discovered a curiosity for repairing not only his bike, but others as well, and took a gig as a mechanic at age 16.

Dabbling in skateboarding and BMX, Superted soon started riding a fixed gear bike and adapted his old tricks to his new bike. He hooked up with Fixed Gear London, and loves the camaraderie of so many cyclists coming from so many different backgrounds within the movement. Still in London, Ted has his own workshop for building and repairing frames. He is working on a number of projects including the development of some new parts. He loves everything about bikes and hopes to ride for the rest of his life. Ted’s colorway of the Nike Air Zoom Tiempo with Nike Sportswear will be available in the US in Fall 2009.

Developed specifically for the Nike Sportswear LIVESTRONG Collection, the footwear design team looked at the Nike Tiempo – first launched through the soccer category – and enhanced the shoe with key elements to work with today’s inner city bike rider.

Constructed with a board last, a process referencing ACG’s history, this provides a stiffer construction of the shoe making the pushdown of the pedal stroke easier on the rider. Throughout the construction of the shoe, the designers have increased the density of the rubber and the derometer. Inside the shoe, the sockliner has been updated to also be a bit stiffer, giving support to the foot. The upper of the shoe mirrors the look of the original Tiempo, however has been updated with a tougher leather to last through the wear and tear of the pedal cages may cause.

The City Tiempo pack includes eight colorways inspired by the iconic yellow of LIVESTRONG and was developed in partnership with eight global bike riders dubbed The CTRS. Each color represents a different rider and their respective city. The eight riders include; Kyle Demers from New York City, Jupiter Desphy from Los Angeles, Superted from London, Takaharu “Hal” Okada from Tokyo, Yorgo Tloupas from Paris, Henrik Kuerschner from Berlin, Massan from San Francisco, and Lance Armstrong representing his hometown of Austin.

With the help and insights of DQM, among the upcoming shoes previewed by Nike Sportswear and its Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG “Stages” collection was the cycling-centric City Tiempo. In addition to a stiff footbed and insole, the football-inspired shoe features a deep, supportive heel with a foldover tongue to prevent the laces from being exposed. Lance Armstrong’s latest team-up with Nike Sportswear has dominated the headlines in the last few days ranging from the KAWS designed TREK Madone and the footwear offerings. In a further update to what Nike Sportswear has cooked up for the Stages collection, we present some more footwear and apparel. Some of the previously seen “Greatest Hits” pack feature the Hideout Woven Footscape, Futura x Dunk High, Busy P x So-Me x Air Force 1 and Mister Cartoon x Air Force 1. Other mini-packs falling under the “Hope Rides Again” collection include the Lunar Livestrong, Evolution of Air (Air Max 180, Air Max 1, Air Max 90) and the bike meets soccer inspired Cutters pack (Nike City Tiempo). Rounding out the extensive footwear collection under the “Hope Rides Again” theme are two jackets, the Livestrong M65 and Livestrong Firefly Jacket. Aside fromt he Cutters pack, many of the colorways revolve around LIVESTRONG iconic black/white color schemes. The sale of these items will benefit the cause at hand via the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
