With the all too typical “I need to get back in the gym” New Year’s resolution approaching, Nike aims to help us actually make our lifestyle change a reality with the launch of the Air Max+ 2012. Considered the sneaker giant’s flagship running model, the Air Max features the latest in design technology; with the 2012 release offering an extremely breathable Hyperfuse and mesh upper, accompanied by the popular 360 Air Sole unit. With more colorways certainly available down the road, we’re presented with a neon/red model expected to release in early 2012.

After garnishing overwhelming support and notoriety when it was first introduced as a Kickstarter project, designer and illustrator Matt Stevens debuts his much anticipated MAX100 publication, a definitive collection of 100 illustrations of the storied Air Max 1. Equally as impressive as its contents, the art book is printed in full color and features a cloth-finished hardcover. Limited to an initial production run of 1,000 copies, MAX100 is now available for pre-order and will ship out in a custom slipcase in late November after all of the project’s Kickstarter rewards have been fulfilled. As a brand, Nike’s representation has gone far beyond its primary role as a sportswear brand. As a cultural driver as well as being an iconic brand, we’ve seen many instances where people have gone on to reappropriate Nike in an artistic form. Case in point is the work of Gabriel Dishaw of Indianapolis, Indiana who recreates the Air Max 2011 in an archaic technological style which embodies old computer parts and even a 747 airplane oxygen mask. The 90-hour project also includes some considered design elements including a a Nike+ USB port.

The kicks feature the model’s signature gradient look, with a nice photo blue making its presence felt amongst a series of grey hues. Priced at $145 USD, these are now available through select Nike stockists, including Nice Kicks.

After being introduced in the spring of 2010, Nike Sportswear continue on with their re-modeled Air Max BW Gen II. Inspired by the original Air Max BW, its contemporary brother the Gen II included a Torch upper for greater breathability as well as a re-engineered outsole for more flexibility.

Yesterday marked one of the most iconic Nike Air Max 97’s releases. The Metallic Gold/Varsity Red-Black Air Max 97 Retro was launched in limited numbers at select shops such as mita sneakers. Coveted by sneaker enthusiasts, the Metallic Gold Air Max 97 is certainly a grail for many since it has been retroed sparingly.

Nike brings back a classic colorway of the Air Max 180 in its original 1991 color scheme. Reworked for Spring 2010, the kicks feature a white/black base with neon yellow highlights adding that nostalgic touch. For those interested, they are now available through Schuh-You.

Previewed is a peek into what looks like an upcoming colorway from Nike’s Spring/Summer footwear offerings. Taking on a classic colorway, the 180 returns in 2010 with a fresh version for Spring/Summer, reminiscent of the Miami Dolphins schemes used on previous models. Stay tuned as a release is set for April/May.
