In celebration of this years 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, many brands have looked to the populous super power for inspiration. New Balance has tackled the challenge via one of Chinese culture's most popular institutions in Chinese Opera. Often featuring many colorful masks as a necessity for their wardrobe and story telling, New Balance has applied this concept to three different 576 models. Each with a strong conceptual background, shoe concepts include "Jing" (orange) who references power and force, "Chou" (red) focuses itself on crafty and cunning characteristics and finally "Mo" (green) which is based on maturity and honesty. The China Mask collection will release August 2008 with a suggested price of $100 USD.
The Mexican blanket concept has combined with the 20th anniversary of New Balance's most popular 576 series to produce this latest release. Although most Mexican blanket themes stress a high degree of contrast and color, New Balance chose a more subdued pattern for this 576. The black leather upper is highlighted by a series of contrast stitches along the heel and the start of the toebox. Available now at mita.

Two familiar partners in crime, massive Japanese sneaker store Atmos has had the pleasure of working with New Balance on numerous occasions to fulfill the large Japanese appetite for the NB. We've seen distinct design patterns emanating from the Land of the Rising Sun as the Japanese are known to adore concept driven footwear as well as more liberal creations. The latest Atmos x New Balance collabo features a color-changing upper which changes colors relative to heat. A July release date has been set however aside from Atmos NY, don't expect these to be too readily available outside of Japan.
