Best known by its shortened moniker MCM, Mode Creation Munich has seen a longstanding history as one of the foremost luxury leather goods purveyors since its 1976 founding. The label’s latest “Camou Pop” series of backpacks draws its inspiration from traditional digitized camouflage patterns to curate a chic interpretation on the functional motif. Cut from extremely durable Tarpaulin, the bag’s exterior is draped in MCM canvas Viseto material that is set in a grey base. Layered black, blue and tonal grey digi-camo is emblazoned across the entirety of the pack. Not foregoing functionality, a large center compartment resides across the pack’s anterior while dual side pockets, rugged silver zippers and black leather piping finish it off. The MCM Spring/Summer 2012 Camou Pop Backpack will be available through select MCM locations and flagships worldwide this season.

Continuing off the success of last winter’s capsule collection, avant-garde label PHENOMENON teamed up with MCM to once again offer a selection of goods featuring a tasteful twist on the usage of animal print. This time around the two respected brands offer a leather baseball cap, complete with tiger camouflage, and an orange and black blend of its name. The limited edition cap will be available November 5 at The Contemporary Fix, United Arrows and PHENOMENON OSAKA with a price tag of ¥22,680 JPY (approximately $289 USD).

Despite associations with the fashion-oriented hip-hop crowd, German luxury leather goods brand MCM (which stands for Mode Creation Munich) has been around since Taz Arnold was a kid. Founded in 1976, the brand has always been oriented towards global travel and boundary-pushing interpretations of more classic modes of transporting goods. Despite a significant influx of modern design in the brand, their logo of beribboned laurel leaves represents King Ludwig I’s passion for the neoclassical, referring back to the Ancient Greek icon for victory. MCM’s latest satellite store in Berlin showcases a significant range of accessories including some traditional bags, outlandish backpacks, monogrammed iPod cases, wallets and more. Filling an interesting niche between heritage and contemporary streetwear design, MCM’s latest slew of offerings is definitely worth checking out for those in Berlin.

Japanese designer Tekeshi Osumi, whose acclaimed men’s brand PHENOMENON comes full force with a new lineup for the Spring/Summer 2011 as debuted during Tokyo Collection Week. One recently announced project is a joint collaboration utilizing the efforts of German luxury brand MCM for a lineup of accessories. The collection looks to incorporate an all-over tribal design motif and embellishment of silver plate accents on an array of items including bags, wallets and Apple devices. Prospective buyers can look to a June 5, 2011 release at Japanese retailers such as UNITED ARROWS HARAJUKU and PHENOMENON OSAKA.

Anybody familiar with the work of PHENOMENON has probably understood its position as a progressive and maybe deemed avant-garde approach to design and streetwear. In a collaboration for this season, the brand teams up with another brand with some of the same creative sensibilities as MCM help produce an extensive collection.
