Following the initial preview of a black-themed version, the rumors surrounding the Pentax K-01 designed at the hand of Marc Newson have come full circle with the official unveiling today at a private London launch event. Aesthetically, the camera is rather impressive with its striking balance of classic nostalgia and modern form packaged within an elegantly compact device. Beyond the impressive cosmetics, Newson carefully crafted the K-01 with a degree of uniformity and fluidity afforded by its ultra-thin 40mm F/2.8 prime kit lens that comes in at right around .38 inches thick. The feature-rich mirrorless camera also boasts an impressively high performance resume via a 16-megapixel APS-C sensor, full 1080p HD video capture at up to 24 fps, RAW shooting capabilities, support for K-mount lenses, and a three-inch LCD screen among a range of other functionalities.

Slated for a March 2012 release, the Pentax K-01 will be offered in a trio of colors – yellow, black or white, while retail will come in at $900 USD for the kit and $750 USD for just the body.

Well in advance of its official release, G-Star RAW by Marc Newson preview its upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 collection with the acclaimed industrial designer. The ongoing collaborative effort, which is often characterized by its technical street-inspired fashion sees a wide range of T-shirts, denim and pants. Military inspiration plays a key role in the forthcoming capsule, with a heavy emphasis placed on cargo pocketed surplus pants, and an M65 Army Jacket. Also notable across the wide range of high-tech leisure-wear arrangement is the use of the “Walking Star” logo and Newson’s rubberized “dot” logo from the original G-Star Elwood design.

For Summer 2011, G-Star RAW by Marc Newson continues Marc’s exploration of simplified lines through technical constructions. Single-piece arms, hidden pockets and minimal seams are all used in a range that represents the luxury sportswear side of the G-Star brand. This latest collection features an army/beach theme and includes a range of sweaters, shirts, battle pants and swim shorts that incorporate a simplified interpretation of an army camouflage print. The lineup hits stores on June 15, 2011.

Marc Newson, a prolific Australian designer, approaches his latest project with contemporary watch brand Ikepod to produce his rendition of the classic hourglass. Captured by Philip Andelman, music director for such acts as Beyonce, Jay-Z and Band of Horses, the poignant short film documents the intricate and mesmerizing process of crafting such an elegant timepiece.

In September, Marc Newson launched his exhibition Transport. VernissageTV caught up with one of the exhibition’s highlights, the Newson-designed Aquariva on the waters by Miami. The boat’s design features a textile-based laminate with a wood aesthetic to create a vintage feel, all while being more robust than wood.

Vernissage TV made their way to New York City for the recent “Transport” exhibition by design guru Marc Newson. The show initially opened earlier in the month, showcasing a wide array of transport and human locomotion design by Newson, dating back to 1999. For those interested in attending, the show remains open through October 16th, 2010 at the Gagosian Gallery.

Gagosian Gallery recently opened its latest exhibition, “Transport,” a thematic showcase by Marc Newson, which brought together, for the first time, all of his major designs and realized products for transport and human locomotion since 1999. In association with Marc Newson’s upcoming “Transport” exhibition, Nike has once again open the vaults to the Nike Zvezdochka. Released sparingly including a special LIVESTRONG release of last year, this upcoming re-release comes to us in two colors, Grey/Mahogany and Grey/Aegean. The model was named after the dog who partook in the Russian Sputnik 10 space voyage of 2010 while the inaugural Nike Zvezdochka was unveiled in 2004. The Marc Newson x Nike Zvezdochika “Transport” is available at the Gagosian Shop at 998 Madison Ave while Newson’s transportation and human locomotion-inspired exhibition opens today as well.
