The release of Seen Unknown marks the beginning of a new MBP series edited by Winston Tseng, art director for Enjoi Skateboards. Tseng has worked with some of today’s most genre-defying visual artists and designers whose work extends well beyond skateboard culture. From sneaker and apparel design to product packaging, posters, high-profile ad campaigns and fine art galleries, the work of these artists is often recognizable, though their creators’ names remain unknown, until now. With Seen Unknown, Tseng unifies the diverse range of work by some of his favorite artists, putting it all in once place for readers to enjoy.

In 1989, Marc McKee got his start creating skateboard graphics for World Industries and many of its subsidiaries, like Blind, 101, Menace, A-Team and Almost. Spearheaded by McKee, this era is considered the golden age of skateboard art, whose funny, sexy and offensive graphics were hugely popular then and are considered highly collectable today. McKee was also the editor of Big Brother magazine during its first four years and later worked on Blunt Snowboard Magazine, before selling both to Larry Flynt Publications. Today, McKee continues to make art for skateboard companies. The book is now available for purchase through Amazon, priced at $19.95 USD.

During the golden age of skateboard art, McKee spearheaded many projects that became hugely popular then and still are today. An exhibition at Los Angeles’ HVW8 Art + Design Gallery will consist of a selection of some of McKee’s personal favorites from over the past 20 years, including old classic decks, new limited edition prints and never-before-seen original drawings and paintings. In addition, the exhibition will also mark the release for McKee’s new book, The Art of Marc McKee, which is the first installment of the “Seen Unknown” series edited by Winston Tseng.

The Hundreds and Brooklyn Projects will kick off the opening of their Censorship is Weak as F##k exhibition tonight with a special VIP party. The exhibition is a retrospective look at the history of skate art by Sean Cliver and Marc Mckee under the realm of World Industries. Their characteristically controversial and sarcastic art would be a highlighting point as World Industries would allow no social issue to be untouched as seen in this showcase.
