February 4 marked World Cancer Day and the announcement of Nike Team LIVESTRONG uniting to bring hope, courage and inspiration to the 28 million cancer survivors worldwide. Joining Lance Armstrong and the millions around the world are a variety of world-class athletes who have directly or indirectly been affected by the disease. The list of compassionate and caring individuals include Julian Wilson, P.K. Subban, Sanya Richards-Ross, Lamar Odom, Larry Fitzgerald, Tessa Bonhomme and John Lester. In kicking off the new year, Nike is embarking on a new campaign which challenges athletes all across the world to inspire themselves as well as others. You may have already noticed several well-known sports figures disclosing their 2012 goals via Twitter, as highlighted through Nike’s recently formulated Twitter and #MAKEITCOUNT hash tag. An additional dimension also includes the #HOWTOMAKEITCOUNT official photographer 13thWitness sharing photos and inspirational quotes till January 3, 2012. To further promote the series of “new year’s resolutions,” they have released an initial teaser footage, which features respected athletes over several disciplines. Nike presents a new commercial, dubbed “Engine”, surrounding the LIVESTRONG initiative and its founder/Nike endorser Lance Armstrong. Definitely an interesting piece, with a scoop into the inner workings of Lance Armstrong’s thoughts as he passionately engages in his craft. Enjoy!

In anticipation of Lance Armstrong’s 2010 Tour de France Challenge, Armstrong’s foundation LIVESTRONG and Nike Sportswear collaborate on new model of the Nike Sportswear Dunk High Premium. A black leather upper features a LIVESTRONG yellow outsole and a reference to the Tour de France and racing heritage via a striped motif on the rear. Available Saturday, July 3rd at UNDFTD La Brea.

In a continuation of the OriginalFake 4th anniversary, the latest collaboration item to be unveiled is a limited edition run of Frogskins created in association with Oakley and Lance Armstong. The trademark “XX” motif is replicated over the entirety of the frames which will release only at the OriginalFake Aoyama store in Tokyo on Saturday, May 29th.

Nike continues on a path of success in the world of commercials and ads with another stunning piece of work for their latest spot titled Human Chain. Questioning the drive and motivation of athletes, the piece features an eclectic mix of world class athletic talents including Lance Armstrong, LaDanian Tomlinson, Maria Sharapova and Rampage Jackson. The video also features the track “Ali in the Jungle” by British band, The Hours.

With the STAGES show now fully wrapped up, Trek offers a closer look into its one-off District bike made in collaboration with Lance Armstrong. Among the many features, the bike boasts a carbon fiver frame, carbon fiber composite yellow belt drive system, and hints of LIVESTRONG yellow within a mostly black design.

Tonight marked the latest STAGES opening at Art Basel Miami 2009. The multi-day event has brought together some of the art world’s most captivating visuals as the opening night featured an eclectic mix of personalities. Show creator Lance Armstrong was met with the likes of Os Gemeos, Mark Parker of Nike, Jose Parla and D*Zine among other notables. The event will be open till the 6th of December. Lance Armstrong and Nike have been sharing their passion for life and sports together through a combined effort STAGES, a global art exhibit aimed at raising worldwide awareness and funds for the LIVESTRONG® Global Cancer Campaign. Capturing the spirit that survives in Lance, more than 20 artists donated their time and creativity to put across a message on behalf of LIVESTRONG, Armstrong’s foundation committed to inspiring and empowering people affected by cancer.

With a strong debut in Paris, STAGES launched at Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery with a team of the world’s most accomplished and promising international artists, including Ed Ruscha, Cai-Guo Qiang, Richard Prince, Catherine Opie, KAWS, Eric White, José Parlá, Christopher Wool, Tom Sachs, Dzine, and Rosson Crow. The second part of their journey took place in New York City hosted by Deitch Projects where the team picked up four extra members with new works: the Os Gemeos twins, Futura and Dustin Yellin.

The finale will take place at one of the art world’s biggest global events: Art Basel Miami Beach. To create an even louder voice for the LIVESTRONG message, STAGES calls in Los Angeles based Christian and Rob Clayton, aka the Clayton Brothers, the furious paintings from Erik Parker and the black and white portraiture genius of artist Tomoo Gokita for a high energy show full of talent and spirit. All artwork on display as part of STAGES will be available for purchase with proceeds directly benefiting LIVESTRONG.

Cycling great Lance Armstrong and Nike have teamed up to bring to New York City, STAGES, a global, thematic art exhibit aimed at raising worldwide awareness and funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation in the fight against cancer. The exhibit unites the worlds of art, philanthropy and sport in a unique celebration of human potential. Open to the public, it will be on display at New York’s iconic Deitch Projects for three weeks from Saturday, October 31, through Saturday, November 21. Prior to the public opening of STAGES, Nike will host a private reception at Deitch featuring Lance Armstrong and Nike Inc.’s CEO & President, Mark Parker.

“Through STAGES we are able to celebrate the strength of the human spirit while also continuing to shine a spotlight on a much needed cause which is the fight against this terrible disease,” said Lance Armstrong. “By using the passion that is both in sport and the creative arts, STAGES unites us to take on a cause that has arguably affected every household either directly or indirectly.”

Launched this past July during the Tour de France at Paris’ famed Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, STAGES was inspired by Lance Armstrong’s athletic accomplishments, struggle, and heroic triumph over cancer. Comprised of more than twenty original works of art that range from painting, to sculpture, to art rendered bike frames, STAGES features some of the world’s most accomplished and promising international artists. All artwork on display as part of STAGES will be available for purchase with proceeds directly benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Artwork from New Yorkers and legendary artists Eric White, KAWS, José Parlá, Tom Sachs, and Cai-Guo Qiang will be on display along with pieces from world-class artists Ed Ruscha, Richard Prince, Catherine Opie, Christopher Wool, Dzine, and Rosson Crow. Adding to the collection for the first time will be paintings from NYC legendary graffiti artists Futura and the Brazilian artists Os Gemeos, also known as “The Twins”. Rounding out the exhibit will be a sculpture by Dustin Yellin.

By bringing together a diverse pool of artists from all walks of life, STAGES, is a testament to the devastating connection the disease has with many and how that connection can both confront and inspire through art.

Nike continues to be a long time supporter of both Lance Armstrong and the Lance Armstrong Foundation, creating the yellow wristband in 2004, which gave global visibility to the foundation. To date there are over 70 million bands that have been worn by supporters throughout the world.

Following its stay in New York, the STAGES art exhibit will conclude with a stop in Miami in early December as part of Art Basel Miami Beach.
