Joya, the New York-based fragrance design studio, is releasing a limited edition Army Candle Project for the holidays. Dawn (Amber Absolute) and Dusk (Bitter Orange Leaf) scents are poured in a natural soy wax blend and housed in a vintage Britsh Army soap dish, marked 1945. This is then packaged in British DPM camouflage that has been hand tailored to the size of a traditional handkerchief, and wrapped in olive green paracord like that of Japanese packaging. It is a stunning creation that will have only 100 produced, with each one stamped and numbered. The Joya Army Candle Project is currently available at Joyastudio.com and select retailers around the world.

Fine fragrance brand JOYA presents a new collaboration with American perfumery D.S. & Durga. The Brooklyn-based companies started on this project in early 2011 with the end product resulting in what they call the Staghorn Sumac. The fragrance represents an amalgamation of the young companies’ expertise in fragrance and design with an initial batch of 100 37ml perfumes in glass bottles and porcelain accents having been produced. Staghorn Sumac was released this week commemorating New York’s Fashion’s Night Out event and can now be purchased at In God We Trust, FSC Barber locations and online at Joyastudio.com/shop, Dsanddurga.com and Beautyhabit.com.

People love learning how the products they consume are manufactured. The number of videos detailing the brogue-ing of a lace-up oxford or the stone-washing of a pair of denim have almost become numbingly copious. New from popular candlemaker Joya, however, comes a quaint and unpretentious peek into the world of their studio – a true craftsman’s space. Take a moment to glance through these photos and you might find yourself wondering exactly how candles are made in the first place. Maybe one of those informational videos wouldn’t be too unwanted after all.

The Blind Barber out of New York City’s East Village continues on a path of product creation. The past has seen the barbershop and hangout spot design ties with C. Chauchat as well as recently star in a spot with Dockers. This time around, fellow New Yorkers JOYA help create a selection of candles inspired by the smells of the barbershop including Honey, Smoke, Leather and Lavender. The tradition of barbicide vessels serves as the container, complete with a metal lid. Available at The Blind Barber and VANE, priced between $32 USD and $88 USD.

New York fragrance and “home ambiance innovator” Joya, Baxter of California and Reed Space all join forces to produce a special candle titled “LAPSANG NOIR.” The candle enjoys a primary scent of “smoky, steaming black Lapsang Souchong tea” with hints of Indonesian herbal tones and floral mixes. The candle’s scent was inspired by Baxter’s own “Noir” candle series, however the final product embodies the interests of all parties involved. 15 months lather, the LAPSANG NOIR candle will be available in either HALF KILO or FULL KILO sizes with price / burntimes of $84 USD / 100 hours and $151 USD / 200 hours respectively. They will be available first at Reed Space and Baxter’s Barber Shop in Los Angeles.

INVENTORY Magazine are about to add this collaborative scented candle to their ITEMS range. Combining with Frederick Bouchardy at Joya in New York, the candle is the first non-wearable product release from INVENTORY. Coming in a sophisticated and restrained packaging, the scent within is far more intricate and is created from Fig, Sunwashed Oak & Amber. Giving off a fragrance that is both “warm and subtle”, the candles are currently being finished but shall be available soon at $45 from INVENTORY Stockroom, Partners & Spade and Dover Street Market.

Japanese boutique Edition has looked to New York-based candle maker Joya to produce a small collection of candles under the “BASICS Edition” collection. The “unisex and seasonless” candles join the Edition collection which also includes a collection of apparel. The candle collaboration includes 5 large (12.5 oz. / 354g) items: White Musk / Sparling Yuzu (scented candle #00000) in all white, Green Tea / Mint / French Lavender (scented candle #00001) in white with gray stripe, Lotus Blossom / Water Lily (scented candle #00002) in white with blue stripe, Rose Geranium / Cassis (scented candle #00003) in white with red stripe, and Pomegranate / Vanilla Orchid (scented candle #00004) in white with black stripe. The co-branded candles will be available at Edition stores across Japan.

Continuing a successful, ongoing partnership with Barneys New York, Joya is unveiling a unique collection of fragrance diffusers beginning today in the Chelsea Passage department of the 660 Madison Avenue flagship. The newest collection is an unusual take on the diffuser concept. Joya founder Frederick Bouchardy selects vintage vessels, ranging from late 1800’s English ink pots to early 1900’s medical and amber boudoir bottles, and packages them with classic French apothecary-inspired perfume oils for a one-of-a-kind home fragrance experience. Each set includes ten natural reed sticks, funnel, card with a description of the specific item, and housed in a wooden shadowbox with gold hardware and sliding plexiglass lid. Joya’s Perfume in Porcelain range of scented candles and diffusers is currently available in select Barneys apothecary and Co-Op locations.

Together with the candle-making expertise of Joya, New York’s Vane has created a collection of candles inspired by the art of cocktails and traditional candle craftsmanship. The three part candle series features the scents Basil Vodka Gimlet, Passionfruit Gin Martini and Honey Whiskey Fix, all based on classic recipes and hand poured in New York City to produce a stunning visual and fragrant experience. The $60 USD candles also come complete with a hand-painted ceiling tile as the base and will be available at STUDIO @ Fred Segal in LA and Tomorrowland’s Edition store sin Japan as we as online at both Vane and Joya’s online stores.
