Without a doubt, Jim Phillips has been one of the skateboard world’s defining characters. Creating some of the most recognizable visuals that have lasted generations of skaters, Jim Phillips may be taking a step back from general freelance work but has no intentions of stopping cranking out new decks for Santa Cruz. We felt it fitting to highlight Jim Phillips’ illustrious career. For the man behind the iconic “Screaming Hand”, we’re hoping to get you the readers involved to submit any questions you may have for the pioneering artist. Originally previewed back in April, an approximate announce date has been announced for the Jim Phillips x Puma First Round release. Based on an iconic skate graphic the Screaming Hand, the First Round’s overall aesthetic is a series of black patterns based on the line-work of the graphic seen on the blue upper. Select bits of red are incorporated on the Form Stripe, heel and liner. The Screaming Hand icon is also seen on the back of the shoe. The First Round comes packaged with four sets of laces as well as the availability of a separate t-shirt. Available August 15th at hanon shop with an anticipated worldwide roll-out around that time.

Brought together by common interests such as skating, a special union has involved legendary skate graphic artist Jim Phillips and clothing labels Magic Number and In4mation, who together have created a limited edition t-shirt. The design features Jim Phillips’ Skateboarding Gremlin in a new colorway and outfitted with logos from each respective brand. The t-shirt is available exclusively at STLESS.

We’ve seen Jim Phillips’ well known Screaming Hand image seen on different products. From it’s original inception on a skate deck, the Screaming Hand can be seen as a toy as well as the concept transformed into different forms such as the Screaming Leg figure. Legendary skateboard graphic artist Jim Phillips has teamed up with the crew at Made by Monsters to produce another collaborative effort. The trucker cap includes an exaggerated shape with an embroidered Jim Phillips Eyeball logo. This Signature Series cap is limited to 50 pieces worldwide.

For those familiar with Jim Philips’ work, he has established himself as one of the most iconic and well known graphic designers of his generation within the skate and surf scene. While previous collaborations have resulted in a Screaming Hand figure, Beams and Medicom Toy teamed up to produce a Screaming Leg figure which holds similar characteristics to the Screaming Hand design with the exception of more personified figure, possessing both limbs and a surfboard. Earlier this year toy-makers Made By Monsters teamed up with the legendary graphic artist Jim Phillips on a figure depicting Jim Phillips’ classic 1985 skateboard art, The Screaming Hand. The Screaming Hand in figure form is back again, this time with a reverse colorway from the original blue hand. Screaming Red will be available early December 2007 with a retail price of $100 USD. Pre-orders are currently accepted via the Garagework Industries.
