Although never having the opportunity to visit The Hundreds second addition to their growing empire, The Hundreds San Francisco, the pictures have provided a small sense of what the retail experience entails. However I'm pretty sure not amount of visual will replace the actual experience as you venture into the cave. The extensive design process has recently been outlined by Bobby Hundreds as the steps from start to finish is outlined. With a theme of creating an amusement park ride inspired by Indiana Jones, The Goonies and 2001, for many I'm sure the goal has been well achieved.

The new Bape Harajuku store which opened up in January is another masterpiece from the design firm Wonderwall. On the Wonderwall site, they state:
"For the Bape store, after discussions with Nigo, we decided to create a store that felt like a town within a building with an American diner flair. However, for the top floor, a sense of playfulness was added with a colonial style resort inspired space."

Recently we had a post about the Wood Wood Temporary Space at Comme des Garcons Guerilla Store. Here are some actual pictures from the space. This Karl-Oskar Olsen and Brian SS design, as expected, uses lots of tape and vintage looking furniture for decorative designs; a lot of cardboard boxes were used for shelving and product display. The Wood Wood space is very unique from most other stores that use a sleek and high-end approach. Be sure to check out this space while you can.

Although subprime mortgage meltdowns x global recession has most likely slowed consumer spending as well as the opening of new shops, over the years flaghship stores from some of the biggest brands out there have drawn reference to successful retail spaces of Bape and their architectural masterminds Wonderwall. However, this movement is much more then just a notion embodied by large successful brands. The task of creating a heterogeneous product among the sea of product has looked to design to ensure shoppers are offered a special retail experience. Allen Benedikt covers the likes of Alife LA, OriginalFake, Supreme and Union NYC as well as the designers behind their flagship stores.
