Vancouver’s very own Nardwuar returns with his latest one on one as he catches up with Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah. As usual, the Human Serviette offers his signature unorthodox approach of music journalism and delves into a variety of subjects like his Staten Island’s Force M.D.s, Sanford and Son, Sugar Hill’s Sylvia Robinson and Tiramisu among others.

The acclaimed Ghostface Killah, rapper from the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, sits down with Interview Magazine direct from Iceland to divulge in everything from fashion to Justin Bieber and spirituality. There is no absence of Ghostface’s playful pandering and social commentary in this entertaining, albeit insightful interview.

BEVINS: Is there some kind of contradiction between being gangsta and sitting backstage with Icelandic models?

COLES: Nah, you can be whatever you want. You don’t physically gotta be a gangsta, where you just killing something. You can be a gangsta in your frame of mind. If you know how to get money, that’s your gangsta. You get money. You don’t gotta be a gangsta everywhere like, “Yo, I’m trying to threaten you,” or anything like that.

BEVINS: You definitely seem nice right now. So, would you agree that music on the radio now isn’t really what you’d call gangsta?

COLES: Nah man, it’s for little kids.

BEVINS: [laughs] Well yeah, I guess even Justin Bieber has hip-hop, right?

COLES: Right. So, we’re older, we expect something different. There’s no message or nothing. There’s no nothing. Look: When Wu-Tang came we was dropping bombs, like, you know, a bomb atomically, like Socrates. We had messages. There was something behind it. Like Nas, Mobb Deep, Biggie, Tupac.

BEVINS: I mean I’ve been using this word dangerous, but Wu-Tang was socially explosive, right? It reverberated throughout culture. Is there a chance that something like this could happen again?

COLES: I can’t promise you that, because everybody’s not in that frame of mind. Times change. When Wu-Tang came, Wu-Tang was for that era, right there. When Dre had it in the West Coast, it was for that time. Biggie and them, it was for that time.

It’s a whole different time now, we’re trying to get it back there, but everyone’s mind, even within Wu-Tang, might not be on that. It was a lot easier for us then, because we were just on the streets. Now we got families and babies, we thinking about a lot of shit. I had more fun then than I have now.

BEVINS: Is this here fun?

COLES: Yeah, I guess, but I mean, I’ve been doing this forever. It’s not new to me. In ’93, it was new to me.

The third episode of ‘The Next 48 Hours With Ghostface’ chronicles the day after the album release, following Ghostface around New York, from his first stop at the Power 105.1 Morning Show with Ed Lover & Free to the MySpace Release Show at night. The rapper, best known for Wu-Tang fame, continues on: Shade 45 with Angela Yee, the Soho Adidas Store, Best Buy Store, Staten Island, and the Hot 97 Dinner with Winners (Peter Rosenberg & Cipha Sounds), ending with the concert.

Raekwon, Ghostface and Methodman have officially announced the release date of their latest collaborative set to drop December 22nd. Entitled, “The Wu-Massacre” the LP will primarily highlight arguably three of the Wu’s finest members. This promotional short film serves as part one of three promotional clips directed by Rik Cordero. Check it out.

About as explicit as expected, Ghostface drops the full video for his track Stapleton Sex. The cut can be expected on Ghostface’s upcoming release, Wizard of Poetry, due out September, 29th, 2009. As mentioned before, definitely not safe for work.

What could have been the crowning jewel for Raekwon’s latest OB4CL2 album, never actually took place as many expected. Luckily, the album still turned out as a classic for years to come. But bringing forth this creative effort via Kenzo Digital, we have this interesting blend created as an homage to fill the void of a Nas collaboration that never happened on the album as fans expected. This is not exactly an official record from Nas and Rae, but it’s very well put together as a blend. Yesterday marked the highly anticipated release of Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II LP. Hip-hop heads may have grown restless, waiting all these years for some kind of awakening promised by this release. Hopefully this album does just that, and based on itunes numbers (top album right now), it’s apparent the people are clamoring to resurrect real hip-hop. The single below, entitled “The Badlands”, won’t be found on any U.S. copies, because it is a UK-only exclusive. It’s okay though because we got it here– check it out.

The Wu-Tang Clan unleash their latest piece of work with a music video for their J Dilla produced single, “House of Flying Daggers” Utilizing their trademark martial arts aesthetic, the group managed to fuse in different Hip Hop elements into the animation, bringing forth this eclectic montage. The record itself will be on Raekwon’s highly anticipated, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II album due out this September 8th, 2009.
