Last month, Ron English made an appearance at the Kidrobot flagship in New York City. Taking the time to meet with fans and do a live painting session on a massive Dunny, we took a few minutes to speak with the artist. English praises the development of the designer toy world thanks to Kidrobot, talks about working with paintings vs. toys, and his subverted advertising interests.

Kidrobot’s popular Dunny figure ventures into a new direction with a special piece created by Brooklyn designer David Weeks. Named the Chiseler, the figure is “modeled after Weeks’ poseable timber toys Hanno the Gorilla and Ursa the Bear”. The limited edition run of 5 Chiseler Dunnys include zebra-striped hard pine with sharped angular facets unlike the Dunny’s usual smooth, free-flowing lines. Also including a swivel head and set of arms, the Chiseler comes in a custom wooden-crate packaging and is set to release on Tuesday, September 22nd at Kidrobot NY and Kidrobot.com.

Amanda Visell masterminds what we consider to be one of the most intricate and well-designed Dunnys to date with the creation of her Wodden Donkey Dunny. Featuring a wooden aesthetic, the Dunny features some interesting characteristics including buck-teeth, branch fingers and accessories such as an axe and stump. A small heart-shaped carving marking the Kidrobot and Amanda Visell relationship is seen on the left foot as well. 1500 pieces were created in total and are available now at select retailers including Foosh.

California-based toy customizer Dustin Cantrell has recently created a hybrid between technology and toys for ToyCyte. His latest creation is an amalgamation of Kidrobot’s staple Dunny and a plasma globe. Dustin gained recognition from his 3rd Place winning Custom T.W.E.R.P. Mad*L which was also a union of technology and vinyl. A detailed interview and Cantrell’s sci-fi themed creation can be acquired via contest over at ToyCyte.

A look into the impending Dunny Series 5 from Kidrobot has been unveiled. Some of the names that perhaps resonate the most are the likes of Frank Kozik, Steven Harrington, Mishka (seen after the jump) and JK5. However within the collection and knowing full-well line-sheet images and the real thing are often different, we’re already eagerly anticipating a real-life look into pieces from the aforementioned collaborators as well as MAD, Aya Kakeda, Mad Barbarians and Dirty Donny. In addition, two mystery Dunnys will release, created by Huck Gee and Devilrobots.
