This year has marked a monumental stage in Converse's long and storied history. Reaching the century mark has been no easy task for any brand, however through the strengths of Converse's marquee products, the brand has created a lasting legacy as it looks towards the future. Their strong foundation has enabled them to create and lead strong humanitarian efforts such as the (PRODUCT) Red campaign which since day one has set out to help in the battle against AIDS. The centurion mark along with the (PRODUCT) Red project came together in an event celebration titled Celebrating 1HUND(RED) Artists. (PRODUCT) Red was conceptualized as a means for some of the world's leading creative minds to create original artworks highlighting the struggle against AIDS. Although it would be difficult to list all one hundred contributing artists, the list includes Rostarr (USA), Rinzen (USA), Michael Schall (USA), Hiroshi Fujiwara (Japan), Jeremyville (Australia), Michael White for Dondi White (USA), Colletivo Design (Brazil), Grandpeople (Norway), Supakitch (France) and UPSO (USA). The March 27th event was highlighted by DJ performances by Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and special sets by Simian Mobile Disco and DJ Spencer Sweeney. The installations were designed by a few of the New York based contributors, Rostarr, Rinzen and Michael Schall. The collection of sneakers will release over the upcoming months, with 10% of wholesale price of each product sold benefiting The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
