Eyewear specialists Cassius have just released a second version of their Tange model sunglasses. Incorporating key elements found on the Kenzo Tange’s 1946 Tokyo Olympic design, the shades are aviator style, with gently tinted lenses. The acetate frame is designed as a modern version of a more traditional frame which again is a reference to the Japanese architect’s work that the model is named after. The Cassius Tange comes in black, graphite and walnut with brown mono, dark green mono or clear rx lenses, with each color limited to just 300 pieces. The sunglasses are now available from Cassius for $200.

Cassius Eyewear references the styling and craftsmanship of the 1960′s and 70′s to create sunglasses that have a vintage look modernized. Using frames hand-crafted from acetate and fitted with hand-polished lenses, Cassius takes an architectural approach to eyewear. Designer Jason Ng is targeting today’s consumer with styles such as the Aalto which features a basic frame accented with a metal bar at the temple and stems, the Maher is a classic take on the 1970′s aviator given a modern spin in unique color frames and the Corbu forms a sleek over-sized wayfarer. WeSC continue on the path of artist collaborations as four new styles are seen here. The participating parties include all musically-mind acts in DimMak, Cassius, The Glimmers and the Bloody Beetroots. The styles previewed here will officially release at the beginning of July, however they’re currently on pre-order at hanon shop.

Cassius Eyewear is the manifestation of founder Jason Ng. Created as an alternative to luxury branded eyewear, Cassius places systems of harmony and proportion at the centre of it’s design philosophy. This together with the ideology that a logo should be intentionally subtle so that the shape and design of the frames themselves defines the look and feel, rather than the ‘brand’ itself. Their first range explicitly evokes scale of architectural proportion, the Bauhaus and the warped forms of 20th century structures – capacious and linear, mixing volumes and space. Their decision to launch their first range in the fall of 2008 at the Pool/Magic Tradeshow in Las Vegas, was received with overwhelming interest from overseas buyers; including France, Japan, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States – before launching Cassius in their native New Zealand.
