Bottega Veneta work together with Robert Polidori to help tell the story of the Italian fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Known for his large-format photography work, he takes on a different medium outside of traditional platforms such as architecture to focus on models. The imagery was shot on location at the 16th century Palazzo Papadopoli which further enhances the mood and aesthetic of the collection.

Joining a host of other fashion labels who have designed products in order to help raise money for charity, Bottega Veneta has just released this limited edition keychain bearing a stamp of the iconic Japanese flag across its front. Designed by creative director Tomas Maier and priced at SGD $260 (approx. $210 USD), the keychain is made from a hand-woven intrecciato nappa leather and will be available in a run of only 1,000 pieces through Bottega Veneta boutiques worldwide or through bottegaveneta.com, with 100% of proceeds going towards the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Under the lead of creative director Thomas Maier, Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta has just debuted its first fashion film, Viaggio Notturno (Night Journey). Directed by Christian Weber and shot at the Setai Hotel in New York City, this dark short captures the mystery, romance and anonymity of hotel living and traveling while also highlighting some signature designs from the label’s permanent collection. The concept behind the film was drawn from Maier’s own personal experience, as the designer often finds himself staying in hotels alone while splitting time between his office in Milan and his home in Florida. Featuring an original score by Austin-based chamber-pop band Balmorhea, Vaggio Notturno stars models Patricia van der Vliet and Terron Wood.

Created for this year’s Salone del Mobile, leather specialists Bottega Veneta recently opened a pop-up location in Milan. Complimenting the unveiling of a new suite of luxurious housewares and furniture, the store is located on the fourth floor of its new Milanese HQ. Created by Japanese artisans and master craftsmen, the theme is accordingly “Made in Japan”. Selected by creative director, Tomas Maier, and Seiichi Kamei, the editor-in-chief of Japanese design and architecture magazine Casa Brutus, items include Akita cedar wooden pitchers by Yasutaka Shimizu, hand-cut Shippo Kiriko glasses by Glass Forest, as well as a selection of handbags, messenger bags, totes and wallets made by Maier.

The piece takes on the theme of “Duality” with an emphasis on strong saturation and tone, energy and poise, and fantasy and form. Working with mostly dark palettes, the photography covers brands such as Versace, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Lavenham, Raf Simons, Fred Perry, Marc by Marc Jacobs, D&G and Cartier. “Duality” was photographed by David Hughes and styled by Stevie Westgarth.

With an invigorating approach to next season’s collection, Bottega Veneta’s collection for 2010 fall was marked by a street-centric presentation. While the large scale pompadours perhaps complemented some pieces a bit better than others, the Rockabilly aesthetic seen towards the end balanced out nicely with the jackets and knitwear seen during the earlier parts of the show.
