D40 ISO Comparison

im still a noob, but it was my understanding from others photographers that the higher iso doesnt net you less details, just the noise(i guess with enough noise you would lose details but im not trying to use 1600 or 3200 on the d40), but if you use noise reduction thats built into some cams, that will usually blur your photos while still not getting rid of all the noise and you would then have a softer less detailed picture. "better to get a sharp noisy pic than a blurry or underexposed one w/o noise." but i guess it depends on what you are going for :p

D40 ISO Comparison

its a jiu jitsu tournament(martial arts) where the arena will have multiple fights going on. there wasnt that great of a chance that i could get in close but if i am, its still easier for me to move further away than trying to get close, so im going with the longer zoom(comes out to 105-300 on the crop sensor, plus vr will be nice since no tripods)

D40 ISO Comparison

gonna be shooting with a 70-200 f/2.8, and i dont think ill have many shadows to worry about as itll be fairly well lit arena... might be concerned about the blue mats they'll be on though. its a jiu jitsu tourny my brother is going to be in on saturday.

D40 ISO Comparison

so i was recently asking some others on opinions on what lens to rent for indoor sports with the D40 but concerns came up about its ISO performance... so i decided to do a little test. the concern was using ISO800 and I dont think its that bad tongueface Images with full crops... ISO200 [Image]

i think you should go with a nice flash. you would be pleased to find out what kinda shots you can get simply with bounced flash. if, for whatever reason you are not digging the idea of a flash, save up money for some nicer/faster glass

[Quote] thx, not really happy that it came out a bit soft, but usually that way on long exposures ;(

Must See: My Bahamian summer vacation (all HD)

nice pics, looks like a fun time he is using a Canon 20D. Looks like maybe 3 different lenses, 85mm f1.8, a wider angle telephoto(17-85mm 4-5.6? ), and then some sorta zoom telephoto(7-200mm 2.8? )
