How much Credit Card debt do you have?

Start  building credit early. If you're in college then get a college cc. Even if you're not going to use it, it'll help kickstart your credit history and put you in a better position later in life when you need credit. It's better to have and not need than need and not have. Keep your utilization under 30% of all credit available to you. Diversify your credit. 2-3 revolving accts (i.e. credit cards and lines of credit) and an installment loan (i.e. auto loan or consolidation loan if necessary). I've heard that in order to be in the best position possible when it comes to getting pre-approved for a mortgage, you need AT LEAST 3 active trade lines that have been open for 3+ years along with good credit. Don't carry balances on CC's. Get a rewards card that's tailored to you (i.e. a mileage card or cash back card), use it on your everyday spending like gas and groceries, pay that shit off, and continue to collect your rewards. Credit card interest rates are ridiculous, and they aren't designed to hold balances in the first place. Have a personal line of credit on the back burner for emergency spending...interest rates are typically much lower than cc's (but that's depending on your credit score of course). If you're already carrying a high balance on a cc, consider consolidating that debt into a loan. Lower interest with a fixed payment + if you don't get the ideal interest rate at first, you can refinance every 6-months and chip at the rate...pending you don't run up your cc balances again.
