Replied in [Olé Denim] – 2016 Official Discussion Thread, 2 Weeks ago in Brands

The word Olé has long been synonymous as an expression of approval, triumph and encouragement. Derived from the English word ‘Hello’ and the Portuguese Ola, Olé has gone on to become an international proclamation of joy and excitement. It is the same feeling we express today with the official launch of Canada’s newest brand: Olé Denim. For over two years the team at Olé Denim have been working tirelessly sourcing the very best components and developing the fit that would become their inaugural style, the 306. Olé carefully selected denim from Kuroki Denim Mills in Okayama, Japan. Okayama is famous for producing some of the world’s richest textiles. All fabric at Kuroki is rope dyed which entails that the fabric yarns are twisted into a rope and then quickly dipped into indigo baths. This has long been considered the best method for dyeing denim as it prevents the indigo from fully penetrating the fibers, which allows for strong fading to be achievable at an earlier stage. Olé Denim is proudly designed in Canada and proudly and ethically manufactured in the USA by craftsmen and women with five decades of denim experience. Our denim is produced on the highest quality machinery from the Toyoda shuttle looms that our Japanese sourced fabric is produced on to the Union Special chain-stitching machine that create the perfect hem forming beautiful roping effects as the denim is washed over time. It is extremely important to the Olé brand that all people involved in the creation of our jeans from fabric sourcing through production are treated fairly and ethically. There are only two textiles that get better with age. Denim and Leather. That is why each pair of Olé Denim has a hand crafted and stamped genuine leather patch created by Vancouver native and former Winnipeg leather artisan, Ken Diamond. The 306 is a slim taper silhouette with a medium rise being offered in a sanforized 13.2 oz vintage selvedge denim and 15.4oz selvedge denim from the prestigious Kuroki Mills. The 306 features Ole branded black antique copper flat cap button fly and black antique rivets, front selvedge coin pocket, reinforced rear pockets and pocket bags and 35" inseam. The 13.2oz and 15.4oz are offered in 30,31,32,33,34,36 and 38 all with 35” inseams and will retail for $210 CDN and $260 CDN respectively. About Originating between friends in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada Olé Denim was founded in 2013.  The concept behind Olé Denim was quite simple. Take the inspiration of our daily life’s journey and create a product that could accompany us for the unpredictable ride. From uncharted weekends at the lake, miles logged on the open highway on our cruisers or navigating the concrete jungles of our 9 to 5′s. We wanted to create denim that was Fit to Live. “A man who won’t die for something is not Fit to Live” – Martin Luther King, Jr. @oledenim [Image]

Canadian brand Oak and Oar and Winnipeg Jet forward Blake Wheeler are pleased to announce the release of their winter Capsule Collection, '26'. The capsule documents the 29-year-old's non-traditional journey to the National Hockey League, where over the past eight years he has established himself as one of the league's most elite players. After leading Breck preparatory to a Minnesota State Championship, the then 17-year old was drafted 5th overall into the National Hockey League. Wheeler would attend the University of Minnesota where his name would be etched into the Golden Gopher history books, scoring the overtime game winner against the University of North Dakota and leading the U of M to a WCHA Championship. The right-winger has gone on to play over 500 games in the National Hockey League and represent his country at the Sochi Olympics as a member of the US National Team. The Oak + Oar x Blake Wheeler capsule features a collection of three New Era 59Fifty® fitted caps. Each cap pays tribute to a keystone moment in Blake's career; from his time at Breck preparatory in Golden Valley, Minnesota, being part of the return of professional hockey to Winnipeg, to signing a 6-year contract becoming a cornerstone piece of the Winnipeg Jets 2.0. Alongside the collection of New Era 59Fifty® fitted caps, is a limited run of tees offered in both black and heather grey. The shirts are crested with one of Blake's first childhood hockey card depicting him as a member of the Wayzata Youth Hockey Association; where it all began. 10% of each sale made online and in-store will be donated to Siloam Mission in Winnipeg, Manitoba; an organization that alleviates hardships and provides opportunities for change for those affected by homelessness. Further information on the release can be found at www.oakandoar.com. Available now.  New Era's $44.99 CDN / Tees $32 CDN [Embed content]

Oak + Oar began with a simple idea and a strong desire. The brand planted roots in central Canada and began the journey into new and unfamiliar territory. Over a year in the works the brand officially launched in Summer 2012. Drawing inspiration from cabin lifestyle and the comradery of weekends at the lake, Oak + Oar serves as an outlet to explore the influence that weekends at that lake can implore on design and clothing.  Whether it is a gusting sub-zero December evening huddled around the wood stove shooting the breeze, a scorching July afternoon out on the water, or a late August evening spent posted up around the fire with a couple cold ones and good company, you are sure to find Oak + Oar. We’ll see you at the lake.  Instagram:
