Lack of originality

Anytime a different direction is accepted, there will be responses to it. Either rip offs or parodies.  Its just the way things work, unfortunately.

Logo feedback - update

heeeeey that got turned around very nicely!  I'd love to see how it would look sans-gradients and in 1 color, but all in all good job turning this around.

Advice for being/becoming a graphic designer?

Theycallmevince hit something right on the head: school means crap if you're lazy with this stuff. I've had a lot of assistants/interns in my career are a graphic designer/illustrator and the ones who always do something with themselves always WANT to be better, does not matter what school they went to. On the other side of that i've also had people come in, pull the "i went to so and so school, i know what im doing/i don't deserve this" that totally sucked ass as designers.  so yes, another vouch for dont be lazy/learn everything.

Advertising graphics - couple of questions

texture of the fur on the shoulder/arms almost looks ike it was someone in a suit that was photographed then a cow head was photoshopped in.  learn illustrator, photoshop, and indesign (yes, people still use indesign for layout). challenge yourself, try to get as realistic as you can using gradient mesh on AI. try digital painting on PS.

[Quote]if you ditch the cursive on "cause an" and make it match the uproar (or maybe intert the colors so its red fill, white outline up there) it will flow way better.  also i know you mentioned it already but that lion needs help. suggestions would be find a good side profile, maybe it b/w, live trace it, and add colors behind it. currently its not abstract enough to be a "representation" of a lion head, but also not detailed enough to really pull it off.  hope that helps!

Graphic Design Help Thread

im not sure i understand what you're doing with the document setup in illustrator but try this:  select your letters.  in the toolbox, look at the foreground/stroke color and make sure the foreground is white.  now, select the square tool from the toolbox (or hit M), click anywhere and fill in the size you need. make sure this is black.  make sure the black square is selected, right click on it, and go to arrange. select "send to back".
