Small DENIM Questions Thread

Raw Jeans Shrinkage Alright I got a question-- I got these levis 511, in the rigid tumbled black wash...it fit great but then after I washed them, they shrunk like 3 sizes. Now they look like girls jeans on me. I don't care much about those jeans anymore, but I am worried about future raw jeans that I get. I got some raw jeans at H&M and they didn't shrink much at all after washing. I don't know which is more normal-- very minor shrinking or very major shrinking. I'm also not sure if the difference has to do with how they were washed. Maybe I left the levis in the dryer too long, but I can't remember enough to know for sure. That is really what the question is about-- If raw jeans are washed and dried with too much heat, are they gonna shrink as much as the levis? Or were the levis made differently from the H&M raw jeans that didn't shrink as much.

A way to prevent dragging

I personally like stacking my jeans, but I've been having trouble with the jeans dragging, unless I either get skinnier jeans (and I don't care for skinny jeans) or get really wide shoes. I noticed that on a jean jacket that I have, there is a zipper at the sleeve opening that allows it to get smaller. http:88//img11.imageshack.us/i/zipperclose.jpg/ (remove 8's to use link) I figured the same could be done with jeans, which would allow me to have slightly baggier jeans that will stack, without any dragging. So my question is: Is there a way to get zippers sewn onto the bottom of jeans? Also, what do you think of this idea? (I already know it isn't really my idea so you don't need to tell me) blushing Is there a better way to prevent dragging?

The Official Levi's Thread

Ok so I just picked up two Levis 514's. The first is a regular 514 Rigid wash. So far, it hasn't seemed to loose any of it's color, but I haven't washed it yet. The second is a 514 Welder. I'm not sure what the difference is between the regular kind and the slightly more expensive Welder, other than that it comes in different washes and has different pockets in the back. I'm not sure if it's 'rigid' or not. Anyway, this one did have dye transfer. I let it soak in warm water and dried it, and now there isn't any more transferring. So I have a few questions for both. 1) Will they keep losing dye each time I wash it? Or will the color only fade for the first wash, and keep its color for any future washes? 2) Will washing them make them loose their rigidness? 3) Will either of them shrink a lot after the first wash? I'm mostly worried about the regular rigid wash; like I said I'm not sure if the other is rigid. 4) If they do shrink on their first wash, will they continue to shrink even more for future washes? Thanks

Any slim jeans that have a smaller leg opening??
Yeah but cleaners aren't pro tailors. I'd be afraid of them ruining the jeans.
Doesn't it cost an arm and a leg to do that?

Any slim jeans that have a smaller leg opening??

I have Levi's 514 (slim fit), and they work pretty well, except I wish it had a smaller leg opening so I could get some stacking. I've tried Levi's skinny (511) jeans, but they are too tight for my taste. So I'm looking for some jeans that will have a small leg opening like the skinny jeans, but without being as tight. I don't care if they call it skinny, slim, or regular fit. Just so it fits the way I like it. So any brands you'd recommend, or places I could shop online?

Where can I find good tapered jeans??

I've looked at the levi's 520s, and I think they are tighter than what i'm looking for. They're like a cross between a 511 and a 510. And with the 501, i don't think it would come out as a tapered fit. Any other suggestions besides levis?

Where can I find good tapered jeans??

I'm looking for jeans that are tapered enough for stacking. I have skinny jeans (Levi's 511) that can do that, but I'd like some that are baggier. I tried Levi's 505 and 514, and both of them had a leg opening that was too wide. Anyway, as far as price, I want under $80. Maybe there is some place that has good clearance? I'm open to any suggestions!

How can you keep jeans from falling under your shoes?
Hmm....sorry, i don't get the reference. It'd make more sense if you said Kanye, since he's kinda got the look i'm going for.

How can you keep jeans from falling under your shoes?

I like to get longer length jeans to get that stacked look. As long as I wear skinny jeans I'm fine; but if I wear wider jeans, they will drag on the floor. One thought I had was to pinch the back part of the opening and have it sewn together, so the opening is smaller. Is that a stupid idea? Another idea I had might actually be better-- cut off the cuff part of a sock and get it sewn onto the inside of the bottom of the jeans. since it's cuffed onto the leg, it won't fall down, and if it's only sewn onto the back of the inside, it won't effect how it looks either. Does that sound ok? How do you do it?

Why do size charts for men's clothing always seem off?

Have you ever tried to figure out what size you should wear by looking at a size chart? They have those at pretty much every online clothing store. For me, they always seem off. I measured my chest at 40 inches, and according to the size charts I should be wearing medium shirts at most places (and sometimes large), but those seem baggy. I've only bean wearing mediums from abercrombie & fitch, but I normally get smalls at other places. I suppose it's possible that I just wear tight-ish shirts, but I really don't think I do. Mine look no tighter than other people's. It's the same with pants, I measured my waist at 36, but I wear size 32 jeans, and even then I wear a belt so they stay put. Is this normal? Do you stay true to the size charts? Why is it telling me that mediums or larges are my size (based on my 40 inch chest measurement) when smalls seem to fit better?

Does this sound like an ok way to roll up jacket sleeves?
"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion." - wikipedia So...I make a topic about general fashion on a general fashion forum, while you make rude comments, and I'm the one trolling? What an interesting world we live in.

Black Denim

You could always try Levi's. They have a few types of black denim (raw and non raw) that you can get in a tapered fit. There skinny jeans are tapered, and shouldn't look too skinny if you get the sizing right. The price is good too. Since you can buy them at several places (kohls, macys, sears, jcpenny), it's easy to find it on sale. Hope this helped.
