Just picked up a pair, the White, Black and Orange ones, and I couldn't be happier. They look dirty on, and I snagged the last pair of 11's in Toronto. I'm not sure when they dropped in the states but they came out two days ago here.
Anyone else grab a pair? I'm wondering what people are using to protect the toe. I'm pretty sure its suade.

Krudmart has some of the grey ones but only in smaller sizes, and District Footwear has the ones I have and the greys in like a 10-10.5.
Those were the first two stores that popped up when I searched Vans 45 LX Fixed. I suggest just trying that if you don't know any stores near you that stock them.

sorry if this has been asked/reported on, but is there anything special about the construction of this shoe compared to other eras?

Yea that little pouch thing. And the laces are 3m as well. I believe the toe box is made of suede? Not sure though.

Yeah the toe box is suade I'm pretty sure.
The pre-release info said that the vans would be built to better suit the fixed gear rider lifestyle (I'm paraphrasing, thats not the exact quote). The actual material that makes up most of the shoe is a little rougher than the normal Eras, and the laces are intertwined with a reflective thread, but honestly, I don't think these will hold up well, atleast aesthetically, if you rode around in them.
They hella pretty, but I don't think I'd expect too much from them strengthwise. Could be wrong, but still. I'm keeping mine clean.

I was on the fence about these thinking they just labled regular Vans as "fixed" but no, these are noticeably different. The toebox, like others have mentioned, are a different material. They seem thicker and more durable. I am confident they will hold up to my clips.

the difference between these and regular eras is the whole upper is reinforced with kevlar and the toe also has added material to protect against wear from your pedal cages. They also have a syndicate sole which has extra padding and is really comfortable, as well as the already mentioned 3m accents in the laces and back mid sole tag.

I usually ride in eras or slips-on because they fit in my cages without having to loosen them a whole bunch but they don't hold up to the wear and tear of riding and they start to rip at the sides of the toes. I got two pairs of these in late June and have been riding in one pair ever since and they are holding up great. The 3m on the back tag has already worn off though, but that is to be expected as that always happens with Vans. The saddle bag is just some bullshit, but I guess it was pretty cool they included it. A slip on version of these is supposed to be coming out soon.
