I was wondering where most companies that have photographs on their t-shirts get their photographs from. Do they actually take those photographs? This is an example of what I mean : http://www.citizen-clothing.com/shop/brands/influence/

Anyone who replies might want to consider the "rpg" shirt on that link before replying.

I would say 99% of the time not taken by them. Just found through google, other online image databases, books, etc. If the picture isn't that famous or well known you're probably safe from being sued.

To ditch legal issues, take the pics yourself.

a good friend of mine works for www.gettyimages.com and he tells me that lawsuits are filed often for this sort of stuff.

the streetwear industry is rife with plagiarism and reproduction, its just the way it is.

AND1 started out using ripped logo's without permission from NBA teams until they got big enough and payed/given permission to use the legit team logo's etc.
pretty sure upper playground just got done for this recently, also Billabong ripping johnny cupcakes, johnny cupcakes stealing fonts without having permission, obviously crooks and castles, correct me if im wrong Diamond supply got done as well for 40k (ouch!),marc ecko.in a way its kind of nature of the business i spose.

alot of the time these bigger labels say the "stolen/borrowed" design was done by a freelance designer they hired, which in some cases could be true but who knows.

now that i think of it there is a website i heard about but i cant remember the name,i'll see if i can find it.

EDIT- found it!
