Fashion design school??

Does anyone know any schools in either the NYC, or Chicago areas that are worth checking out??? i have looked at IADT in chicago, though i heard alot of bad things about it and it is very expensive.. And i Checked out FIT in NYC but well i dont have a portfolio made.. so i am kindof stuck... Any ideas

Portfolio is a must, why are you restricting yourself to Chi town and NYC? SF has FIDM, and LA too.

im restricting myself to Chi, or NYC cuz im from new england and i like the cold, i couldnt stand being in heat year round.. im prolly going to take some uncredited courses at a local art school to throw together a portfolio and get into a bigger school. Thanks for your inputs though, any more suggestions would be helpfull
