just saw a program on my MBP called "partition inspector" is this a program that comes with OS X? I've never noticed it before and didn't see it on my iMac when I had it either

Need help deciding on what to get for a laptop. It's going to be my main workstation for making beats (Reason and Ableton). Thinking of getting either the new macbook pro when it comes out, asus u44sg, or msi x460dx. I would instacopthe asus u44sg, but a lot of reviews have concerns with overheating. MBP seems to be the most reliable for producing though.

Can anyone else recommend other shit? I'm looking for something thin and lightweight. 13-14" display and less than 5lbs.

Any suggestions?

Try Thinkpad x220 or T420.

I love mine. Has the best keyboard for a laptop.

I have an e220s and it's kinda small so probably won't be getting an x220. The T420 is too bulky for me.

What do you hope to gain? What can't you do now?

I usually put off upgrading OS as long as I can because newer OS on older hardware usually doesn't mean better performance.

You keep saying that, "seems promising" but you neglected to actually answer my question. What do you hope to gain, what can't you do now?

The reviews you're also reading are done on current hardware. If you're running 10.6 that means your Mac is at least 18 months old, possibly as much as 4 years old - in which case upgrading won't make a lot of sense unless you have software compatibility issues.

It is limited compared to Windows.
Not hating on Mac I have both a Macbook Pro and an Asus desktop. Love em both they are two completely different machines and used for two different things.

Wiping is free, it's just reformatting and installing a non-OEM version of Windows. Sammy and Sony love to pack their laptops full of bloatware, gotta get rid of that. You'll need to get your hands on a copy of W7 though, but that's not hard, just torrent it or ask a friend.

Friend's Samsung Chronos(i7) was slower than my old HP(c2d) when he first got it because of that garbo they put on there. Wiped it, now it runs like a dream.

As for Mac being 'limited', nah, not really unless you're a big gamer. I find the OS is confusing whenever I use a friend's, but I'm sure they'd say the same about my laptop running Ubuntu.
