my first thoughts when i saw the back were that it looked like the middle area was rubberish for grip (and potentially wraps around the sides too (hard to tell from the pics), but everyone is talking about it being straight aluminum. idk
i like your thoughts on the "drop and charge" function and i think that would be a great game changer. youre right about sex appeal vs functionality though. the back is not very cool looking, but again this is all just rumor, speculation, and probably even prototype.

3D Maps!?! Finally. I can't wait to see the apps that would use that 3D mapping technology. I really really hope they incorporate it this go around. Silver ios6 UI is cool because I'm assuming the width of the device will limit any of that silver trim around the sides that they use in the current model. Probably using silver to add contrast to the device so it's not solid black looking. Really hoping for some details regarding the new iPhone at WWDC but from what I've seen it will mostly be about ios6, mountain lion, and a macbook pro redesign. I'm hoping for info on an ipad mini and iphone 5 reveal however from what I've read Foxconn (iPhone manufacturing company) stated that it's unlikely as they're still in the early stages. If they give details about the iPhone 5 at WWDC I think they'll probably release it in mid August, if not mid to late September.
i dont get all the hate for the headphone jack on the bottom... for me, i like it.
for instance, when the headphones are in and you have to put your phone in your pocket it's a lot easier and more convenient to put it in upside down with the screen against your thigh. this way you can go straight from holding it, to in your pocket, and when you wanna take it out, you just reach in and its already right side up when you take it out of your pocket. and this way the wires are out of the way and coming out of your pocket perfectly.
even if it's not going in your pocket, the wires will naturally be out of the way if the headphone jack is on the bottom, instead of having to drape the wires over top and behind your phone and hand.
I think all the talk about how lame the relocation of the headphone port is due to peoples perception of change more than anything. If they had a good thing going why change it? Personally its relocation doesn't bother me in the least.
