Amazon Kindle Fire Official Discussion Thread

Anybody catch Amazon's event last night with Jeff Bezos showing off the new Kindle family? What do you guys think? 7" tablet for $199.99 and the content they have.. I think they're onto something. Shares the same OEM manufacturer as the BlackBerry playbook (Quanta) but at least half the price with a better OS. I've always been an iPad guy but getting a pretty well thought-out tablet for the price of an iPod touch seems hard to ignore.

its based around cloud storage, so that's how amazon can keep the price low

I'm surprised this is only now getting a thread... This will be the 2nd best selling tab I'm sure of it, and they'll be Apple's biggest problem IMO...I'm excited about this, I'm a big Amazon fan.. Overall Amazon puts their customers first, these guys are losing money on every fire they sell just to keep a competitive price point. Their plan is to use this device as a platform to get users to work in their eco-system... Get as many Amazon prime members as possible, and they'll make up the money. The use of a cloud service is great, and when a 3G version is released it'll be much more useful. I'm definitely buying one...

it's more than half the price of an ipad. For the price the processor seems to be brilliant.

You thinking about it all backwards they want the cloud to be your primary storage and the 8 gig secondary for the stuff you may need between locating another wi-fi spot.

Exactly ^^

I hate how people are comparing this to the ipad lol.... Totally different device. From what we seen this is an excellent product for 200 bucks and I think they lose 50 bucks or so on every one sold... The point is from what we see it get's the job done. Not everyone wants a PC substitute out of a tablet... The fire has it's place in the market.

Thinking about picking one up im not sure, how is it compared to the blackberry playbook.

pick one up, you can always resell it, im not sure how it is compared to the playbook, but I enjoy having my fire. you can crack it to use ice cream sandwich so it'll be a complete tab. I'd say get the playbook if you're more into apps and shit and don't care about reading. TBH I thought I would read more with the kindle fire, but so far I only read a book and halfway into the second.
