How does everybody feel about "longboarding"? I put it in quotes because it is still skateboarding, just a different discipline/style of riding than street. I'm talking downhill, freeride, slalom, tech slide, park and pool, distance transportation, cruising around and more.

I don't mind the dudes bombing hills and shit, but if you are nowhere near a hill on a longboard, you look like an ass. Simple as that.

To an extent I agree, longboards have become trendy at my highschool with all the bros.

It all depends on how you ride. Bigger wheels make it easier for you to lock into coping, but if you skate street have ride low, loose trucks, wheel bite is going to be a bitch. I've been meaning to size up for tranny sake.

HB fam, I'm looking to learn how to skate this summer (free time and all).

What's the best set-up I can get for <$100? What tips do you have for a new guy?

Thanks, whodis.

The cost of buying a custom setup usually runs about $130-$150. To save yourself some money just buy a blank mini logo deck, they're about $30. Bones stf wheels and bones red bearings are really good, can't go wrong. For trucks i would just get a regular pair of indys, krux, thunder or venture or something. Havent heard too many bad things about them and I know indys skate really well. As for griptape usually jessup grip is free so I just get that, plus i cant stand mob grip because its wayyyyy to grippy for me. If you keep skating you'll figure out what setup works best for you. Hope that helped.

just get the cheapest stuff at the store
no point in spending real money until you are truly dedicated and/or decent at skating
otherwise it's just gonna be a an expensive dust ...collector

There's really no trick tip to learning stuff switch. Best advice I can give is to just roll around switch for a day and practice. It's basically learning to skate all over again.

I need a trick tip on big spins. I can do them frontside, but whenever I try them backside, they always flip under.

I just recently got back into skating after a year or two break.
Never really did get too good, but it's fun as fuck.

This is from today.
