Too expensive for me, I use a 12 Speed Panasonic Road Bike, just need to tweak the breaks and maybe a new paintjob, wheels..

yeah me too, i got a federal nation with primo trimmings, but im buying an old track bike and building it up into a single speed, gonna put a flip-flop hub on the back so i can switch between normal freeride and fixed gear - it takes some getting used to riding a fixie without faceplanting. I know what you mean about the old road bikes, a lot of the time the frames are lighter than road bikes that you can buy now simply because the frame is skinnier, which i like better.

they aint too bad, i think you can get a specialized langster new for about $700

Fixies are dope but idk why everyone is acting like they just were invented. Theyre like the first type of bike ever

like 3 or 4 years ago the odds of anyone riding a fixed gear (not a single speed but a fixed gear) were slim to none unless you were a bike messenger (still i'd say more messengers or just as many use multispeed or singlespeed bikes). Posts like this and other websites focusing on the aesthetics rather than the performance of bikes is what has made fixed gears a staple of the hipster subculture.

I live in a neighborhood full of hipsters and I can't ride/walk down the road w/o seeing a bunch of dudes in skin tight girls jeans riding brand new fixed gears.

what you're saying is true.. but what does any of it have to do with people acting like they were just invented? They're popular, but i've never heard anyone claim that they were new.
