QUESTION.. i was in new york a few months ago.. and i kept seeing these white bikes chained up on everycorner.. and i was wondering if there is a meaning behind these bikes? i also started to see them popping up in SF..
im guessing they represent fallin riders?
but do you know the true meaning by anychance?
July 06, 2006 @ 15:21:11
Not sure about the White Bikes, got any pictures?

To keep this topic around, check out these pictures of Mike Giant's new custom Fixed:

I knew he was into fixed gears but after reading his Count Trackula Blog I guess he's pretty serious about it. I've always liked his art, and it mesh's well with the style of contemporary fixed gear kids. Skulls, Snakes, Nakes girls. I'd like to see pictures of all his bikes but I cant find anything else really.

Still not completely done... (changing bars, seat, chainring)..
But you get the idea. >smh

I usually ride a cheap ass wal-mart mountain bike cuz I live on a mountain (literally). I was wondering what the pros and cons are about a fixie.

Well, if you live on a mountain the Con is that theres no gears to help you go up and down it. Although the Pro to that is you will strengthen your legs up and ride better. As for the Pro's and Con's in general... Heres some links... because I feel like a dork trying to explain why.

Sheldon Brown's Fixed gear FAQ

For the Sneaker/Fixed correlation, Puma's "Fixed Gear 101" .pdf book

Its a lot a personal preference in why, some people like the workout, some like the look, some think its more of a pure biking experience, some because its cheap and easily maintained...

And you can be cool like these guys.

^ Seen that on BF.

Seat needs to go. But nice altogether.

Here's my beater.

Bars have been swapped to risers.

Here's current project.

im looking for a damn peugeot mens frame. so far thrift stores turn up nothing but old schwinns. i have a womens peugeot that i ghetto rigged to a single freewheel, and its fun as crap, but want a mens frame to shave off all the extra brazes on and paint real lnice like.
August 07, 2006 @ 19:33:12
Your beater looks pretty nice to me, and that bridgestone frame is beautiful.
Red Deep V's on either would be nice, but it seems like everyones always talking shit about em. That didnt stop me from grabbing some black ones though.

I know I need a seat bad, but I figure its comfy enough and no one can see while im riding it that it doesnt matter too much at the moment. I just wanted something to ride quick, but I'm on the lookout for something nice always.

I can see you used the LC-A for the bridgestone shot too.
August 07, 2006 @ 20:05:31
^

Thanks! I was debating, red or black. Black is sleek .. but red would be catchy.

Word! If the seats comfy, keep it.

shot another roll today. my buddies on their bikes.

Are you kidding? I'd be there in a second.
I'm still considering moving to the bay area (depending on well, a few things). I don't think my legs could take a lot of SF riding though, it was crazy enough going around those hills on my skateboard.
August 09, 2006 @ 22:57:44
Yo Elliot! Havn't seen you in a min. When we going to ride again?

They are pretty common, I've seen quite a few with the same decals/type.
Its not a bad bike, kind of a beater.
She's trying to sell it to get to get a Track frame.

ive been trying to find one at thrift stores around here to shave everything off and make a fixed. i have a line on a super nice old weirdo race bike with a 650cc in the front, 700 in the rear. ill take flicks when i get it tomorow.
with track frames, i suck too much to really try to build one right now, id rather get a super beater and get better on it/use it for random stuff than spend a grip of cash on a bike right now ; ( however, come moving fulltime to tokyo time, im shipping out a bunch of crap to build something out that way. FUCCCKKK paying regular retail prices for bike shit in tokyo. especially road/track bike shit.

anyones opinion on surly?
oh yea,.. ive been riding at night on the shitty peugeot i ghetto rigged into a single speed, to get used to riding in traffic. i put spacers in the rear to compensate for the lack of derailer stuff. one side broke, in traffic, and caused the rear wheel to get wedged into the side of the frame.
not fun.
