i'd probably watch it cause JGL is in it, but it's making fixed gear riders look kind of bad

great angle i know...ah well. managed to overcome upgrade addiction for the duration of the summer, and haven't spent a penny on her since April. (don't even have her now that i'm back at school.)

bitch on a visp.

so im getting that felt tk3 that drew? is selling, gonna slap some omniums on that bitch. anyone recommend any pedals/clips/straps and etc? and wheels that arent velocity deep vs? i was thinking of getting mavic open pros, but im not sure yet. gonna do some heavy city riding (40-50 miles per ride) with some shitty streets.

Don't really know that much about bikes yet but i picked this up a few months ago. Ordered some Nitto drop bars for it today.

@andy: pedals and clips i'd go with mks gr-9s (platformy pedals, comfier) and mks clips.

for straps, i'd say toshi or cadence, something laminated is a must if you're gonna want stopping power and reliability (i'm assuming you're brakeless?). cost seems kinda high at first but it's worth it in the long run; you won't have to worry about stretching/ripping or buying new straps semi-frequently.

open pros are great rims, get em 32h 3-cross and they should hold up fine. protip: if you end up getting cheap formula hubs, you can always order phil wood bearings and just swap the formula bearings out. all the butteryness of a phil hub at a fraction of the cost!

So i "found" a mountain bike in still good condition.

What are the steps/ beginners guide to turn it into a fixed gear. I dont need to much fancy stuff i just want to make it look a little bit more cool?

EDIT: Is this even possible? It looks like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIAMOND-BACK-OUTLOOK-16-/170710828475?pt=Mountain_Bikes&hash=item27bf2885bb
Oct 13, 2011 @ 05:46
it's possible, but at the end you are probably going to wish you just put your money to an actual fixed gear frame. also constantly pedaling on + geometry of a mountain bike like that will be extremely uncomforatble I'd imagine.

Yo Andy, forgot to ask you man. You get your new whip in the mail yet? Post some pics of that shit.

As far as parts go, here's my two cents:
Pedals: MKS Sylvan Track
Clips: Any double strap cage, they're all pretty much the same thing
Straps: Toshi doubles
Rear wheel: deeper rim, and a nice ass hub. One of the most important parts on a track bike. OR.... somethin hyphy would be an Aerospoke. They're pretty heavy and so should be able to hang back there.
Front wheel: I'd go Open Pro. Laced to somethin light. Front wheels aren't extremely crucial

I've got feelings for this bike man. Do it up right. She deserves it
