Just checked that out. There's got to be a catch right? If you can convince me, I might have to buy one myself

The only downside is you dont know what model you're gonna get. The model that is "Flawed" which can only accept 44t max or the modified crimped chain stay version. Either way it's a good deal. If I end up with the flawed version I'll just run 44x13

get the ftp or dolan, best bang for your buck. i'd never want to ride a lo pro on a track and the kissena is $$$

Advice???//?//?/
Sup thread,

I used to ride BMX back in high school but that was almost 6 years ago. I'm looking to get a single speed but my budget is ~$500 max so I want to buy an old road bike off craigslist and just convert it myself, maybe get a new drivetrain/brakes/bars/tires.

1) I'm 6', how big of a frame would be good for me?

2) What gear ratio should I go for? Where I live is small, rolling hills so I was thinking like 46/13.

Thx
June 30, 2011 @ 13:49:36
thanks das_pyrate and that still seems like a pretty heavy ratio^ If you can do it then why not? There's pretty drastic hills here and I ride 46/16 just fine.
June 30, 2011 @ 13:53:00
Would 44/13 be better? Cardio-wise I'm pretty out of shape so I expect I'll be huffing and puffing for the first couple months no matter what ratio I ride.
June 30, 2011 @ 14:05:00
That sounds a hell of a lot better. Oh and the affinity Kissena (for me) is only $500

whats the best gear ratio for skiddding? I'm running a 48/15 and its a bitch to skid on. Would you recommend a 17 cog or 18?

the lower the ratio, the easier to skid. the higher the ratio, the faster the top speed.
July 03, 2011 @ 06:45:56
im okay with skidding at 48/15, i do suck at it but i've seen people ride my bike too and do really long skids with it

18 would be easier, 17 has more skid patches i believe. just practice more blushing
July 04, 2011 @ 01:01:47
So correct me if I'm wrong. For the rear, a larger cog = a smaller gear (easier to pedal; faster acceleration, less top speed)? so a 17t will be easier to skid on and I can pedal easier and accelarate faster on a 17t than a 15t? So should I choose 48/17 or 48/19 for easier pedaling, easier skidding, and faster acceleration?
July 04, 2011 @ 01:23:38
Slower acceleration (because it takes more spins to move the wheel) and a slower top speed but it takes less power to go average speed therefore easier. Its just like a car.

Which saddles are you guys riding?

Mine is uncomfortable as fuck
July 07, 2011 @ 11:08:51
current ride, new rear wheel setup coming soon. 46x16, been enjoying riding clipless recently, i feel so much more attached/in control than with double straps.
