knicks picked up the 14 mill option for billups.... but then again, the free agents next year for the pg position are kinda ass compared to billups.

but also keep in mind that melo, amare, and billups are being paid more than the big three over in miami

An ESPN analyst recently said in a chat that a source was telling him the Orlando Magic would be forced to trade Dwight Howard this summer, a suggestion that came completely out of left field for the Magic, Howard, and everyone else in the organization. So when that analyst walked into the Magic locker room last night and asked Dwight about his future, the Magic's All-Star center took issue with the entire line of questioning. He asked the analyst where he was going to be traded to, so he could let his agent and his family know, and made it quite clear that he has no intention of demanding a trade or leaving Orlando this summer. He also made it clear that he doesn't appreciate the speculation.

(standing ovation for D12)

I've made this appeal before and I'm sure I will make it again: Can we please, please, please talk about basketball? I mean the real stories? Why, in a league full of the most amazing athletes on the planet and some of the most colorful personalities must we continue to endlessly speculate on what might happen two or three years from now in free agency? Last year all we heard about was LeBron James; this year it was Carmelo Anthony; it's already been about Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Deron Williams and they're not eligible to be free agents until the summer of 2012.

Is the plan really to talk about that ad nauseum for the next 15 months? Because I'm already nauseas at the thought.

First of all, players don't want to talk about it, and when they do they don't say anything. How interesting was it to hear Carmelo Anthony say "basketball is a business" 300 times? Even when Chris Paul says he would love to finish his career in New Orleans, the question keeps coming. It's a no-win question for players because no matter how they answer it, they'll have to answer it again five minutes later.

Second, it doesn't make any sense for a player to commit his future to a situation before he has to. How does Dwight Howard know what the Magic roster will look like after next season? He might have been willing to sign a life-long contract with the Magic after they made it to the Finals, but they've since blown up the team and are on the verge of being eliminated in the first round. Should he just go ahead and sign an extension and trust that things will be better in two years? No one in any line of work would do that. If Dwight's best shot at winning a title is in Orlando, he'll stay. If he has a legitimate shot at a title and a similar financial somewhere else, he'll at least consider leaving. Let's re-visit that in July of 2012, how about it?

In the mean time . . .how about that Kobe Bryant, huh? Playing through a broken foot or whatever it is . . .How about those Grizzlies? Kevin Durant's boys look pretty tough, huh? How can other GMs use the example being set by the Sam Presti and the Thunder as a blue print for being contenders AND being under budget? If you want to talk Magic, why is Stan Van Gundy on the hot seat when his GM traded away the team that made it to the Finals? Does the NFL's inability to lock out its players mean NBA summer league is back on?

See, in just a few seconds I came up with a half-dozen or so stories that are more interesting than mindless speculation on where some free agent *might* sign in 2012.

And now . . .back to the playoffs!

For $14 id let him walk, you can find a solid backup next year. Or take soembody in the draft and build him. Chauncy can lead a team but at this point with his age hes too much of a liability

Don't sleep on Billups. He's still extremely competitive. He's still has a few more good years. Billups is the only player everyone in Denver still wishes we didn't trade.

Damn. I was going for Denver. Refs fucked up with the backcourt violation on Durant btw. That was supposed to go to Denver. He stepped over the line again after he dribbled the ball.

in order to be a back court violation the ball has to be over the line and all body parts of the person touching it, im pretty sure

^ Correct.. Once the ball is cleared past half court, u can't step back over the line even if the ball is on your side..
