Forza Milan. Hope they'll win again. I was just a bit surprised that they weren't more active during the transfer window. They only puchased Pato and Emerson and no defenders, who could really help team cause the current defenders are really too old.. Waiting to see Pato in action starting January!

Other teams to compete Milan are the usuals I guess - Real, Barca, Inter, Chelski and Manu. It would be great if Lyon would finally fulfill their potential, but somehow I still can't see that happening.. It's also a pity that FC Bayern aren't competing cause I'm quite sure that they currently have one of the best teams in Europe with Klos, Toni, Ze Roberto, Ribery etc.

I think the one team that could cause a surprise is Sevilla. They have easily one of the Top 3 squads in Spain, if not the best, but they still haven't participated in CL before.. Winning Uefa Cup two times in a row isn't bad though.. Guess we'll see tonight how they can adapt to the pressure of CL football against Arsenal.

Man Utd on top like always. Their play isn't as impressive as last season, but it's just the beggining. Haven't scored more than 1 goal in the Premier and they lost to City. They will win the group as their opponents aren't very impressive. The biggest threat being AS Roma...LOL! Kidding, love Roma.

I felt I had to bring this topic back with all the football talk going around. Draw for the last 16 was done a while back and all ties will be played on February 19/20 & March 4/5. Here are the ties:

Celtic v. Barcelona
Lyon vs Manchester United
Schalke 04 vs FC Porto
Liverpool vs Inter Milan
Roma vs Real Madrid
Arsenal vs AC Milan
Olympiacos vs Chelsea
Fenerbahce vs FC Sevilla

IMHO, the most exciting of the ties are Inter/Liverpool, AC Milan/Arsenal, and United/Lyon. Two ties between Italian and English giants. Struggling Liverpool has managed to make it's way to the last 16 with massive wins against smaller european teams while Inter is smashing its domestic league while not winning it or getting into top 4 for who knows how long. AC Milan, currect champions of europe are struggling in Serie A while Arsenal, coming back from a loss 1 year back to Barcelona in the finals seems to be in form in both europe and domestic competition. The Man U/Lyon leg pits the current champion of England versus the current champion of France (which doesn't mean much IMO). Lyon have shown that they could hang with the top european clubs and could have Man Utd some trouble through their struggling defence.

Discuss the beautiful game. Don't be afraid to only talk about the Champions League. gogogogogog

Im hoping Manchester united will win it. ive been a fan of theres for a long time and was pretty disappointed last season when they lost to milan, but i think this season is a different story. Ronaldo is def. on top of his game and anderson and nani can help out too. also tevez and Rooney have turned out to be a deadly combo. Also if Manchester can bring in another good signing during the January transfer window such as Berbatov we can do even better. smile

Berbatov ain't leaving Spurs. Ramos put the price tag of 30 mil. United did however make one purchase of Manucho.

hey i can dream of Berbatov coming to manchester united can't I? smile but i just read about Manucho signing on their website and im quite exited. I have a feeling hes gonna take a while to get used to playing here tho, mainly because i remember Nani not being as great as i thought he was gonna be. Only thing is he's 24 yeas old already and i haven't really seen much of his play but if we give him some time he'll def help out up top.

i have a feeling this is gonna turn into a Manchester United thread haha cool

^Manu sucks. It's all Ronaldo and that's it. Let's see next summer or the following when he leaves how they will be playing then.. Currently they are playing really well, but they will still not win the premier league nor champions league.

I'm a huge Milan fan, but somehow I feel that Arsenal will win that tie.. That will be the end of Ancelotti, who will then be replaced by Mourinho in the summer. I'm looking forward to seeing Alexandre Pato playing, but lol @ Berlusconi claiming that he'll score 30 goals by the summer.smile

My prediction now is that Real or Barca will win CL. They just have supreme quality compared to others.. Arsenal could surprise but somehow I dont see them going all the way, cause the team is full of young boys who might not be able to deal with pressure later on in the CL. They will prolly win the premier league though.

I'm still waiting for Lyon to fulfill their true potential and reaching the latter stages of the CL. They have great players each year even if the best ones always leave after breaking through. And they have Benzema, that boy is a monster. He said in an interview that he'd be interested in signing for Milan, and that's what I'm hoping. Pato-Benzema and Kaka behind them could be a killer combination for the next 10 years.

As for Inter. As a Milan fan I have to dislike them, but it is almost unfair for supreme they are in Serie A. They have loads and loads of quality players and still looking for new ones. I wouldn't be surprised if they win Serie A this season as well as the next season.. But still, they will disappoint in CL and drop latest next round.

As for the next ties, I predict the bolded teams to go through in CL:

Celtic v. Barcelona (Easy)
Lyon vs Manchester United (I hope Lyon, but I think Manu will still take this)
Schalke 04 vs FC Porto(FC Porto has shown that it can succeed with limited quality, so they'll continue)
Liverpool vs Inter Milan(Even Torres cannot save 'Pool. Likely that Benitez will get sacked during this season)
Roma vs Real Madrid(Roma is good, but Real isunfortunately better. Maybe next year Tottismile)
Arsenal vs AC Milan(Breaks my heart to say this, but with old and slow defenders and an awful goalie, Milan will lose. Hopefully this will make them buy a new goalkeeper and some defenders)
Olympiacos vs Chelsea(Should be the clearest of the ties)
Fenerbahce vs FC Sevilla(Sevilla is on fire)

Well, there's my thoughts.

hes so damn popular over here. spose the how well they do in the cl could possibly be a key deciding factor

Cristiano Ronaldo is not leaving Old Trafford. It's been stated several times. Man Utd has plenty of young talent that will evolve into more with Nani, Anderson, and the new generation of defenders that will replace Neville and such. They have the attacking potential to wreck any defense in the premiership and europe. From what we've been seeing, United WILL win the premiership as Arsenal has shown slips against some really weak teams and they are top 3 contenders to win the Champions League with AC Milan and either Barca/Real IMHO. Also, I think they have the potential to complete the treble if possible. Call me a dreamer, but I wanna see another 1999.

^Just like David Beckham wasn't leaving ManUtd?smile Maybe not this summer, but maybe the next one, Ronaldo will leave. As will Fabregas.. To them, La Liga is the most tempting league in the world and both have already flirted with Real Madrid and Barcelona. And EVERY player has their price and Barca and Real are the two teams that can come up with those huge amounts needed for Ronaldo etc.

Excellent showing yesterday by Man Utd, can't deny it. 6-0 is a great results, and almost makes me feel bad for Newcastle. First they fire their coach and then they get their biggest beating of the season lol..

And if Manu keeps up the pace and form they've got recently, another 1999 is possible.. Im still hoping that Arsenal start playing as well as they played start of the season, its great to see such young guys playing so beautiful football.

^ Beckham was sold because of his bad relationship with Ferguson and because of his new life style. Same thing happened with van Nisterooy, he got into Ferguson's wrong side and he was sold. And LOL @ the liga being tempting. The reason not being the quality of football, but the money and maybe the weather for all the players that can't hang. Dare I compare Crisitiano Ronaldo with the likes of Eric Cantona?

^Beckham was a diva with a big ego and so is Ronaldo. Would it be a surprise then that he could develop a bad relationship with Ferguson?

And yes, La Liga is tempting. As you said, the weather is better and f.ex Real and Barca have a lot better reputation than any English club can ever have. Just a fact. You can't compare those two teams to any other in any league.. I bet people were saying that Thierry Henry would never leave Arsenal, but he like so many other players could simply not resist the lure of Barca.. The samething will happen with Ronaldo.. But there's no point in arguing over that, it will happen, maybe not this year, but surely in the future. If I remember correctly, Ronaldo has also states that he wants to play in Spain during some point of his career..

ps. Did anybody watch Milan versus Napoli yesterday? Pato had a great debut, scoring a wonderful goal also. Ronaldo was back to his best as well.. The guy has been injured for siz months and just started full training and immediately scores 2 goals. Not bad.. Ronaldo-Pato-Kaka looked very dangerous during the match, and if they play as good during the second part of the season, I wouldn't be surprised if they would succeed in CL as well..

Maybe in 2012. Besides, Ronaldo is still a kid. Hopefully, we will commit further and not give in. Real/Barca spend waaaaaaay too much money to have the reputaion they have. It's sickening.

^Especially Madrid. They have al these players, but do not give their own players a chance.. Casillas, Raul and Guti are their own, homegrown players but in 5years, has even one youngster broken through their ranks? I think they should consider checking their reserves before buying expensive benchwarmers such as Robben and Gago for example.

Barca at least has Bojan and Dos Santos who both have risen from their academy. Personally, as good as Henry is, it wasn't necessary to buy him when they knew they have Bojan and Giovani who both have shown to be capable of succeeding in La Liga..

It took a while last year as well. You have to factor in League and Cup play. BTW, did anyone watch the Manchester United/Spurs game. Very exciting. Spurs played very well despite the score. Jenas missed many golden opportunities. It was a very open game and you know you can't do that against any hyper aggrresive team. As for Champions League, not much to discuss until it starts again.

I ordered it on PPV and went to my parents house @ 6am to watch with the fam. Well worth it. Rooney deserved a goal in that game. That handball that resulted in the penalty was Ronney's for sure.

yup i dunno what dawson was thinking with that handball.... and then after getting sent off he acts all pissed, there was no way you were gonna stop rooney from taking a shot (unless using your hand cool ). i mean at least dont handball, let rooney shoot right there, but theres a chance he'll miss, but he decides to give up a goal and get sent off. good thing im a man utd fan and not a spurs supporter. razz

I feel sorry for all of you premiership fans in Cali. It's enough that I have to get up at 9am and haul myself to the bar on a Saturday Morning, you guys have to swing it at 6 somehow.

I'd imagine the 4:45am matches are sort of a moot point, eh?

i dont think we're allowed to root for city, ever. lol..i think the title race will remain this close for the rest of the season until we play arsenal. i cant see anyone one of us dropping points, however arsenal is a very young team for the exception of a couple players (toure, cesc, gilberto silva) so i dont think they are ready to win a title yet. both of us are in form and should be for the rest of the season if no one gets injured.
