Instead of posting a different thread ill ask the question in here....Does anyone else think Greg Oden is over rated? Ive seen some of his games and numbers and he doesnt live up to the hype for me. All these announcers keep talking about he is so great and how he will redefine the center position in NBA and how he is going to lead his team to the NCAA finals. But his numbers are average and his biggest skill is being taller than everyone else. Hes having some trouble in college and i dont even know how everyone thinks he is going to dominate in the NBA. I just think if you wanna talk about being great you have to go with Kevin Durant from Texas. Oden looks like he is playing his age in college and Durant looks like he is playing with kids. Any thoughts? Oh and GO LONG BEACH STATE!!!!! (I go to school there smile)

do you mean oden? if so. he's definitely a little overrated. [I]but[I] in his defense just his presence alone in the paint deters some people driving in on him. just him being on the court fucks up plays. numbers don't reflect that though.

But in the NBA everybody goes at everybody. His height wont shy people away from the hoop in the NBA and there is always the jumper from the outside. I get what you are saying and the point you are trying to make but its just i hear announcers saying he is going to redefine the position and i just dont see itconfused

ok i understand you guys' arguments.hes pretty good and most of of the critics say he'll be something in the nba because in the nba there's NO TRUE CENTERS that are even good.of course we have a few but that position in the nba is so depleted that he WILL be able to make an impact in the nba.if he was in an era where chamerlain, kareem, oscar rob...u know players like that existed, he probably wouldnt get that much recognition.i mean name 5 TOP NBA centers...to ME yao is the top center of the NBA...after him, theres shaq (and his game has slowed down a notch.even though he picked it up after wade's injury, u CANNOT honestly say that he's the same dominating center he was when he was at his peak in the 01-02 lakers) after him there's okafor and hes good but not great.u can throw duncan in there but he slides from the PF-C position so i dont consider him a TRUE center.i mean oden is a little overrated, but theres not many TRUE centers in the game (NBA) any more so i see how hes being loooked at as being "something special." in the durant argument, i think hes a better overall player too but agen its the POSITION they play.well i hope my point is understandable, i mean i see you guys point too but i think theres validity to both sides.

See i dont think florida's all that good, or that they were last year. Last year they played as a team, because there's no true superstar. I think UCLA had a meltdown and florida took advantage and pulled it out. But i think they might be upset in the first or secong round.

really? all they have to do first round is deny trey the ball and even when he has the ball he's not gonna shoot a high percentage. second round they have trouble if they face arizona but even then, i think they can pull it out.well i respect your opinion but dont u think their team is a "complete team"? theres a lot of teams that rely on 1 or 2 players...this team has several scorers and defensive players.im not saying they are going to win but they have a pretty good chance.smile

No i do think florida is a good "team" because there are no superstars. But i dont think they will repeat either. Because they dont have a go to player, everyone on that team is on the same playing field. Texas has durant, UCLA has affalo, North Carloina has hansborugh and florida has who?

horford, noah, green, brewer, humphrey...you dont need a "go to" player. teams are what when championships just like the way that won last year. they didnt have that go to player last year and what was the result? they have the same team this year that they had last year.

it matters because teams overlooked them and didnt prepare for them.knowing that they are "good" and seeing how they are seeded number 1, teams know they r "legit." in addition, theres a lot more pressure for them...expected to win by many, seeded number 1 this time, last year noone realy expected anything so they played without the pressure to win.if u dont think this affects a team's play...you probably never played in a big game.for example, look at sactown n portland vs the lakers couple years ago =] (yes im a lakers fan).those teams were scared to play the lakers in the "spotlight" and it showed.

^that happens alot such as george mason making it to the final four last year. its all about preparation so if i team doesnt think that they need to prepare for you they wont. just ask kansas about whats happened to them the pass two years. this is why so many upsets occur during the ncaa tournament. some teams prepare and some teams dont and most often the more prepared team win.

Dude you dont think these teams when they've got this far dont prepare for a game? thats silly. Some days some team just play better than others, florida didnt win last year because everyone in the tournament didnt prepare for or underestimated them.
