they're not that great, but if you're a noob it doesn't matter that much. learn the basics then get something dope when you know you really wanna get into it

atomic aint that great. but 80 bucks aint shit. Might as well do it. If you wanna get a nice board, you're gonna be spending atleast 400+ for bindings and a board. Look into Lib tech, forum, Gnu, etc.

I learned on this 80s ass snowboard I bought from salvation army for $15. Dead serious. I'd go on craigslist and cop someone's old set up for even less than 80 and use it your first couple seasons. Who cares if you don't have brand new shiny gear? I'd rather be awesome on a shitty board than one of those rich kids tumbling down the mountain and breaking their arm with brand new shit on. Hate those bitches.

honestly man, what's the point of getting a nice board? you're just starting out now, get a shitty all mountain board, ride it a season or two, then you can figure out whether you'd prefer freeriding or park. each way of riding requires different boots, bindings, and boards, not only in terms of size, but also in shape and stiffness. and you don't wanna start off with a park board, it's too soft and too short for a noob, you'd fall far too often.

^^ yeah this is pretty much it.

I'd cop it, its cheap, don't need anything flash to learn on.
Its good to have 2 boards anyway, one to thrash around (jibbing, early in season, etc) and a better one for riding.

Plus you look like a tool if you have a good board and your shit.

google your research, i advise something intermediate so if you like it itll last a bit better than a value board.

also look into an even balance of flex/stiffness so you can sort of do fast runs and park stuff as you get better

no need for anything crazy/pro enless money aint a thang.

basically do what a couple posts above said; go on craigslist and cop someones old gear. thrash that for a couple season then buy a nice board.

if you dont want to pay 400+ for a new board, stores will usually have last years models in for a lot cheaper which is what i did

It doesn't really matter how you come off on the mountain, as long as you're learning. The important thing is to make sure that you're going to stick with it and that it's something you enjoy because it's an expensive sport.
