Current Affairs Subforum

Jul 25, 2010 @ 23:05
I thought it might be a good idea to take some of the strain off of the Off Topic, which is everything from girls to videos and pictures and personal discussion -- and give Current Affairs its own subforum in the Lifestyle Forum area.

Because of the high traffic in the OT, it's easy for the amount of threads to get confusing with all the threads moving around. It's like a "Miscellaneous" section with too many topics falling under that umbrella. Maybe we could have a poll on it?

itd be good for political debate/ conspiracy crackpots too

would be pretty good if the trolls stay out like in most other lifestyle subforums.

i say go for it,
Jul 27, 2010 @ 00:12
great idea. serious discussion only, take the trolling to off topic.
Jul 27, 2010 @ 00:14
yeah it should be strictly current events, and not sleazy current events. not like omg lindsay lohan had a panic attack in prison current events

lol what current affairs? like whats currently going on in the world?
Jul 27, 2010 @ 00:43
Make a forum for intellectual conversation.. should be good to see all the different point of views.
Jul 27, 2010 @ 00:47
make a religion subforum. i think itll go great.

no jk.

but i think this is a good idea. seems like a lot of real interesting threads get lost in the clusterfuck of a forum that is Off Topic.

trolls seem pretty inevitable though. somehow the moderation would need to be a higher level than the rest. unless HB can prove me wrong.
Jul 27, 2010 @ 01:01
this is a troll comment
Jul 27, 2010 @ 02:28
I think no personal attacks could be a good rule, opinions can be respected as long as there not trolling.
Jul 27, 2010 @ 05:47
Sounds solid, go for it.
Jul 27, 2010 @ 08:28
no thank you...no need to have a bunch of fags who think they are smart cause they listen to real hip hop and bash obama ranting on about homan shit
Jul 27, 2010 @ 08:39
the fuck up Jordan, just cuz your dumbass can't hold an intellectual coversation, don't hold it against others.

Overall, good idea, but if the upkeep isn't tip-top, this will falter fast.

Sounds good, but then again, everyone on this site jumps on my throat when I post something that goes against the popular public opinion here.

It seems fine how it is, but do what you do.

I'm all for a MATURE subforum for political/religion debates. The rules would be pretty obvious: No trolling, no derogatory/demeaning comments. ALL POSTS HAVE TO PROVIDE COHERENT INTELLECTUAL FEEDBACK. That means no quoting of serious statements with "lulz" or "thank you based god" pictures and all that other nonsense.
Jul 27, 2010 @ 12:17
I don't come to HB for this crap. I come to troll, critique and add my unwanted opinion.

/unwanted input

Yep, upkeep and troll monitoring will have to be on point for this to work.

well I learned that you can make sub groups for members and take away privileges from subforums. so i could stop them from posting in there if there was any trouble

That would work drew, whenever a mod sees a member trolling, just take away his access to that subforum for a while and give them another chance after a period of time. It'll be an incentive for people to not troll in the first place.

I feel kinda bad cos I may or may not have contributed to this feeling. Dun worry, guy. I'm back to watching The Colbert Report -- I can sympathise with the right-wing, now.
